You can see them a little better today. Look at this sick pinset tho, the sub is covered in clusters. I give it 4 days and theyll be mature fruits.

Hey everyone, so the Albino tub is definetly not gonna fruit. Its been almost 2 weeks and none of the casing layer is colonized. I put it into fruiting to maybe stimulate growth or something. Still nothing, i think the casing layer was too wet and the sub probaly wasnt 100%. Oh well, you live and learn. I have way better news......

The 1 thing about this forum that i dont like is how EVERYONE recommends agar allllll the time. Even to nubies. I understand how nice and consistent agar is. But if youre just starting with mushies, it makes no sense to start with agar. Theres nothing wrong with M.S. syringes. I use them every single grow and if you look at the Brazil tub above ^^^^^^ you can see MS is not shitty like they want you to think. Yes its random genetics, i get that but if you do everything right and sterile. You will definetly get a harvest. The long time sponsors are very well trusted for their supplies and they dont sell bunk syringes. Yes a contaminant can happen but not very likely. Ive used MS for years and guess how many contaminations ive had? Just 1. Im not the best of the best, im just here to show nubies you dont need to get petri dishes and all that. Try your hand at growing just using MS then once you figure out the mushroom growing cycle and the ins and outs. Try your hand at agar. Just a note. Shitty vendor=shitty syringes. Dont let 1 poor vendor distort your opinion on MS syringes. Some food for thought guys and gals

I noticed this, too. The agar hype wasn't present the first years I have been around here. Nowadays everyone yells at you if you don't use agar.
The first two years I used just MS syringes with great success (some contams of course but not too much). It always depends on the goals you have. I started agar because I wanted to get mono cultures for edible and active species. Agar is useful and a great thing but not neccessary.
It adds more safety, gives you more possibilities and it is fun to work with it. But as you wrote and showed it is not neccessary.

EXACTLY, when i first joined everyone recommended the standard brf pf tek. Not monocultures, slants, and 3 sector petris lol if i had the time and space. Id love to test and grow a monoculture collection of different species. But i cant right now so MS will suffice. I feel like agar is the next step once you learn about the mushroom life cycle and how to be sterile etc...

When you all have a monotub with a pinset, do you ever unlatch the hood so theres more fae? I use to do this when i had brf cakes in a sgfc. I remember RR saying fruits prefer more air then the colonizing mycelium. I dont know if it'd help a monotub or not.

It is not neccessary. A monotub regulates itself. If it is made right there is enough FAE. To improve FAE you can use a fan on low setting in your room.

Ive had a fan on low pointing at the wall next to the tub the entire time its been in fruiting. And thanks for the quick response

My best tub ever came from MS syringes. I inoculated BRF cakes, with the oven method then crumbled the cakes into CVG and mixed it up, It was actually too easy lol, I only lost a couple jars out of 32 I started.Once i took the leap to agar and grains is when I started learning about contams and really working to refine my sterile technique.
I think the idea is to make everyone the best they can be by pushing the agar. And you dont need three sector petris to do it. Pasty plates are where it's at.
I totaly get where your coming from with the syringes being effective, and its a great way to start, esecally to get your own prints. Once you have your own prints though, is when i would recommend going to agar because then you dont have to buy anymore syringes...Unless your looking for something specific, then you have the marketplace!!!

I use syringes for convience, i just dont have the time or space for agar. Wish i did bc id be like a mad scientist haha and i havent had any grain contams so far, just a battch of brf cakes 3 years ago.

This part of the grow adds so much suspense. Any day now these mushies can double in size and be ready for harvest. Its almost like the feeling of christmas whenever i look at the tub. Will update tomorow with more pics.
