Minimum, but still suitable size for minitub?
    #23847450 - 11/19/16 03:07 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hi good people!By now I have aprox 2,2 quarts of colonized rye berries. My dilemma now is what to do with them. I'm pretty sure I'm going monotub with coir, verm and gypsum, but I'm very uncertain about size of tub and spawn ratio.

This little bugger is 15 liters/about 15qt and has 5cm up to the lower holes. A 1:1 spawn ratio in other words. But wouldn't 5cm depth be shallow?

This slightly bigger bugger is 45qt, and needs about 14qt to get 3 inches substrate depth. That would be an insanely low spawn to sub ratio right? Iv'e done som successfull cake grows, but this is my first tub and thus alot of questions.

Is my small tub to little regarding depth? I'm almost certain the big tub is a big no no with this little spawn, but I have to ask. Suggestions? I'm gonna use a liner and Damions 50/50 btw.

I believe that smaller one is a kick ass size for 2qts of spawn... 8qts of spawn is average for the 54qt totes so scaled down to a 15qt tub 2 qts of spawn is perfect.

I hoped so. But i should be misting with such a shallow depth? And apply a 1/4 inch casing layer?

I could easily find this out by myself, but since you are here; do I apply casing after colonization of the tub, or casing right away and fruit when casing is 30'ish percent colonized.

Or maybe straight into fruiting conditions after mixing? I've read many had success with skipping the colonization part. In such case, do I apply casing right away?

I just spawned three six quart dub tubs with CVG straight to fruiting conditions on the 14th, they look great.
So far so good.
