Bleach in the chamber
    #2383825 - 02/27/04 03:30 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

A friend of a friend asked "In my fruiting chamber with the perlite i put about a 20:1 water to bleach ratio for humidity. My question is, was this too much? it's been two days and i don't see any pinning, now i know that this can take some time so i'm not too woried yet, but should i have used less bleach? is hydrogen peroxide easier on the fungus than bleach? what ratio do you guys use? B.T.W. the bleach jug said it contained 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and the rest is "inert ingredients", which i assume means water." Any help would be useful, thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem. Make sure the cakes aren' sitting directly on the perlite because bleach can be harmfull.

I once had a duck who put a lot a bleach in his terrarium water by mistake and despite the very strong bleach smell that was coming out of the terrrarium, the casings went fine!

And I think that when exposed to light, bleach will break down in only a couple of days so soon enough it won't be active anymore, but probably still smelly.

So in brief, make sure your cakes are on something else then direct perlite and you won't have any problems.

.fs.
