new fc, green mold

Ive built this new fruiting chamber for my shiitakes and i put the first few blocks in a few days ago. I took the bags off two, one began fruiting out and the other just has a few pins. I just noticed some green mold growing on one of the blocks.
Im a total noob grower so im wondering, how common is green mold on these sawdust blocks and how are you dealing with it? Is my humidity too high or not enough FAE? should i rise the block in water?

Mold when green or coloured will produce a serious amount of spores. And infect your grow area. I suggest you remove that immediately or suffer months of mold contamination.
If you have mold something when wrong during the process. Or the spawn used was infected with unseen mold.
Really nice chamber BTW, I like that setup.

thanks. i plan on putting my 99.9% hepa filter inside the tent to help with the mold and constantly scrub the air inside the tent and move air around.
you think i should ditch the contaminated block? this tent will hold 30 5lb blocks. this is only the second block to go in. if mold is going to set in that quick, i have a problem.

I've not fruited shiitake, but blocks should be brown before fruiting. Watch Growers shiitake video.

The HEPA isn't necessary, but you should ditch the contaminated blocks. Also, mold doesn't strike that quickly, especially on a fully colonized block. I would think your contam issues lie elsewhere.

Dig a hole outside, enough to put the block in, case in compost. You might find the other block may suffer the same fate.
Prepare to clean the crap out of that chamber.

no need for the hepa in the grow room, you need to bleach the areas and shelves, hope the tent isn't in a real dirty spot in your house or garage. after bleaching ad a bit of peroxide to your humidifier once in a while as it will prevent contaminants from growing.

The block on the right fruited out a bunch of mutated shiitakes in the bag, so i birthed it and put it in the chamber and ripped off the mutated ones hoping it would pin out again. the block on the left is putting out a good pinset.
Ive seen all of growers videos.

you would think contamination would have been visible inside the bag during the 8 week incubation period. it was only when the bag was removed and placed in the chamber the mold became visible.

Hmm...my shiitake experience is limited, but the only block I lost to contamination after browning was when I set it down on a styrofoam plate. The bottom got covered in trich. I've seen trich take a few weeks to become visible before it turns green. Hopefully Drake can chime in.

I've had plenty of hidden mold in spawn, even wooden dowels. Everything is 100% white, but no it is still there.
