Aliens are all around you, says Ivy League professor 4

Quote:
Alien life is behind the mysteries of the universe, according to a radical new theory.
Ancient non-human life forms morphed into the physical world and are the driving force behind mind-boggling quantum physics and phenomena like dark matter, according to a Columbia University astrophysicist.
The expert says our universe is the remains of intelligent alien life that controls all aspects of the physical world — from gravity to the speed of light.
The theory helps to explain the great mysteries of the cosmos and also answers why we have yet to find intelligent life beyond our planet, Professor Caleb Scharf says.
In an article for science journal Nautilus, the radical thinker wrote that alien life could exist in the behavior of subatomic particles and the expansion of the universe.
“Perhaps hyper-advanced life isn’t just external. Perhaps it’s already all around,” he said.
“It is embedded in what we perceive to be physics itself.
“In other words, life might not just be in the equations. It might be the equations.”
He points to a theory that suggests alien life forms intelligent enough to reach us will have already turned themselves into living machines.
Humanity too faces this prospect when our creations overtake our own intelligence — a point dubbed “singularity.”
Taking this a step further, Scharf says hyper-advanced aliens may have gone beyond turning themselves into machine creatures and gone as far as becoming a complex physical system.
“If you’re a civilization that has learned how to encode living systems into different [materials], all you need to do is build a normal-matter-to-dark-matter data-transfer system: a dark matter 3D printer,” Scharf explained.
His theory centers around the idea that we have not seen complex life apart from our own because it already exists around us.
“We don’t recognize advanced life because it forms an integral and unsuspicious part of what we’ve considered to be the natural world,” he wrote.

Thoughts?

A lot of high university professors use psych drugs like LSD and they go a little crazy with stuff like this.

I could see him keeping his position but becoming notorious/ blacklisted due to his "eccentric beliefs", you may be right though and he could get booted quick.
Religious people are probably really pissed off

I believe the entire cosmos is one living conscious being. I call it the Universal Soul or God, but it seems to be the same idea. everything partakes of consciousness. everything is "Alive" and ensouled.
but we will still find countless alien organisms and civilizations teeming all through space.
just like how we humans are one conscious totality but also host to countless individual lifeforms.

though I steer clear of beliefs I can't back up, I actually 'feel' this to be true. My personal notion of 'reality' is a kind of chaotic brilliant soup, in which truth and all definitions and boundaries are matters of perspective, and therefore arbitrary and illusory. It can all be seen as the generation and the substance of one shared mind, but even this definition is no truer than any other, so perhaps the closest thing to the 'true' essence of being is mystery, in my view.

None of that is really testable and so not science. He's just philosophizing. Unexplained phenomena are not evidence for hyper advanced alien life nor god.

Theorizing is a part of science actually. All he did is propose a new way of viewing the universe.
Who knows, it could be proven true one day. Many things people have believed for a long time have been come into question again.
Science is not always black or white and it is most definitely not some penultimate source of knowledge, it is often flawed just like everything human related.

In order to be science, theorizing has to produce testable predictions. You can't just sit there and say maybe aliens are physics. It's not science.
So what if it could one day be proven to be true? You could say that about any theory. That doesn't make it any more plausible.
I never said science was not flawed nor that it is the ultimate (penultimate means second to last) source of knowledge. It's currently the best means we have by which to arrive at knowledge.

The article uses the label "Ivy League Professor" to make the claim credible and then you guys come in here and bash this guy for sharing ideas about the universe because he's an "Ivy League Professor" and "scientist" and therefore is somehow not entitled to doing the same shit you do when you get stoned. The fuck?
I think it's a fantastic idea. As a scientist you're supposed to be pushing the envelope.

I'm not bashing him. If he's proposing it as just an idea, not as a scientificly justified theory, then he's just as able as anyone. It isn't necessarily wrong, it's just the idea as portrayed is inherently not scientific, and therefore while he has every right to his opinion, his credentials do not actually matter in this context see? it's a cool idea indeed, scientific or not

No one is saying he can't do it. It's just not science. It's not even really philosophy. For that you need some logical rigour. It's basically just aliens of the gap. It could make for a cool sci-fi story. He even cites two sci-fi books in his article.
