Wow kactus.... Nice stuff bro, it looks very nice and organized in there man, well done.
Here's my indoor set up, you've probably seen it in the salvia growers thread.
Using 150w LED, and 2x 24w 5200k blue floros. Salvia divinorum, rooting p. Virids leaves, trich pach, mamm red head, cholla cutting, some random succulent, more salvia...
Here's one of my newely aquired nepethene x ventrata plants.

Here's my trich pach with something going on with the top... Suspected caterpillar...
And idk what this is, some sort of succulent I grew from a leaf that accidentally fell in one of the cactus I bought from Walmart, maybe ice plant of some sort.. Idk

I'm also over wintering some peppermint, cat nip, and lemon balm... I had them in pots anyway. I also brought in my potted strawberries and my cholla cactus and my trich grandiflorous and my mammiliria red head.

Haha thanks for the guesses... I should have looked for another of the same kind for a label heh... I didn't really expect it to grow anyway.
Yep... I love seeing my plants so much I leave some indoors all year long like the salvias, my African violets and the nepethenes.
I think in early early spring I'll try to plant a Sally outdoors and let it get huge.

Supposedly i thought i would be lwft out of this thread. Well i was wrong. Last night it dipped into the low 60s. I thought, surely all my plants would be fine. Well all were with the exception of my Erythroxylum novogranatense. The leaves were all limp. the cacao seemed to be ok which surprised me.
I gotta bring those babies in i guess.

It is luxury I admit. I usually put my plants in cold frames Dec to Feb to keep them dry - but as the drought enters its fourth year I am wondering whether I dare do without that.

Do you have freezes?
Regardless,I'm thinking of buying a greenhouse that I can heat for next season

Totally frost free here kactusbrandg. But when I grew in Scotland I had a heated greenhouse - used a paraffin heater - cheapest to run - plants did OK - but nothing like as well as here in Spain.

You should be so lucky? That was in Scotland where it was FUCKING FREEZING.
But the paraffin heater produced lots of CO2 which I think the plants liked.

I am in zone 5 , it can get as cold as -20f for short periods during the winter here.
I stop watering in mid to late September
When the nights start to get below 50f I move most cactus indoors.
In late Oct to mid Nov I move most of the larger cactus to a cool dark room In the basement that stays about 45f to 50f .
they stay there tell it warms up in spring .
Once the nights stay above 50f they go back out side .

Nice garden! How much $ does the HPS cost each month in electricty? I was thinking about getting one but then again being on the gulf coast it only gets 'cold' a few days each each and I have a large fin heater(14 aluminum fins each about 3"x4"). It is basically a giant electrical resistor with a large surface area. I'll post up the data when I get to use it. It'll probably raise energy bill with prolonged use.

I never knew so I just checked how much we get charged here for kw/h and did the math, looks like if I run the 400 12-14 hours a day it's around 15-20$ a month, not as bad as I thought considering I insulated the building very well and the light doubles for heat. Temps got down to 30 outside the other night and it was 60 inside.

Well not even i am immune to bringing plants in. 50f/10c is way too cold for my babies.

And that nice looking cacao on the far left stayed a whole day outside. It actually doesnt look too bad. Cant believe i have made this guy survive in my care for more than a year. 3rd time was the charm i guess.

Temps got down to 30 outside the other night and it was 60 inside.
fuck man, it would cost me 150$ a month to run my 8 bulb t5 with 8 bulbs in it on a 12/12 I'm doing 4 bulbs on 13/11 but I'm not happy about it as I'm going to have to buy another fixture just for peres

Cost of living must definitely be higher. I honestly could really use another 400, I have one but a buddy has been using it for a few months, I'd hate to go take it if he has a couple plants under it but he could get one cheap.
It got down to 20 here yesterday, going to have to keep an eye on my room temps they hit 45 @ lights out don't want my peres to go dormant.

Wow! NDStepp sure has his shit together! That's motivated me to finalize my winter setup. I've got a 400HPS, but currently have a 250 CFL 2700K running. I need to lay down a sheet of vinyl flooring and get the rest of what I need situated under the light for the rest of the winter. It's not much, but it's enough to provide warmth and keep things from going dormant. Space will be limited, think I'll use it for my Catha edulis and new strains of Kratom which are still small. I'm surprised how well my E. novo has adapted to growing in front of a window as a house plant, but it might go in the grow room too. However, I just love the idea of hiding them in plain sight in my living room. I've never put my tricocereus' under lights, but I might try a few. They seem to do OK in my cool basement in front of a south facing window. This really is a great idea for a thread. Winter growing really is the biggest challenge to this hobby. I'll post a picture once I get it set up.
