One of many very powerful scenes from the Trilogy, I knew I recognized that quote
Been wanting to start doing some volunteer work, seems like a simple way to show you are grateful to the world and fellow humans around you.

Nice
Man I think I'd enjoy cooking and volunteering both more if I could handle standing for long hours. I used to volunteer at a privately owned park and zoo here but I had to stop before I built my way up to working with the animals due to health
I prefer to show my appreciation to nature rather than people. Expectations drive me nuts. Mother earth has no expectations. It simply is. I tend to help trees clean themselves of dead limbs and keep small animals out the road - thats my volunteer work. No one expects me to do it and no one is going to give me a medal for it, and that's how I prefer it.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Yeah I feel you, I am not the most social too so public volunteer work might be a bit much for me.
I would much rather grow a bunch of veggies/ food to donate/ give away or even cook and go hand out to people in need.
A dream of mine is owning a farm where I can set up a ton of tents for homeless/ people in need in return for manual labor to help provide enough food for everyone.
Hopefully one day I will get enough $ and or land to pull it off. Seems like it could be a great government program even to make use of public land.

Like a communes? I think that's what they're called. I'd love to be involved with one of those. All the ones I've ever looked at are filled to the brim or have really strict expectations. Alot of people are right sick of traditional living I guess

I bet the shroomery could put one together.
I mean we'd inevitably get shut down for drugs but we could start a commune...

I'd wondered about a similar thing. Starting something like a farm/wannabe commune and getting homeless laborers/residents. Let them make something of themselves.
Oh man, shroomery commune might be a good idea lots of people on here with the skills needed

Vinsue that thread is almost half as old as me
But yeah I'd be willing to bet we could pull it off with a good organizer and enough on the scenes helpers.

I was thinking more of a "public farm/ garden" program but by some definitions it would be a commune of sorts as people would be welcome to stay as long as they need and I would do my best to grow/ store as much food as I could to accommodate everyone. People could set up tents for each other and help grow and process food.

I have seen a few shroomery commune threads Could be really cool, I feel it would have to be in a lax country or something though.
Was even looking into starting a country awhile back Sadly it is far from simple... We would need our own population/ territory, economy and other things.

I actually just emailed Peter Defazio who is one of my state reps about this idea, hopefully there is a public grant in place that could help fund it.
Even just a simpler community garden where people could grow and store food for those in need could make a big difference I feel.

Yeah no need to start all at once, see how your yields do, learn all the tricks of the trade and go from there if it seems plausible.
public grants huh? Never would have thought of that.
Trying to start a country would likely get us all sent to Guantanamo bay/executed unfortunately..

I know people with alot of land in the country beside Bristol that rent it out to race goers (parking or overnight camping) and make a buttload of money. Enough to easily support themselves and tend their small family farms. It's pretty cool, if you don't mind drunken rednecks.
But I think your idea could end up being more easily accomplished rather than a full commune where people have permanent residence. Less restrictions and licences needed and stuff. In the states at least, I dunno about other countries.

Yeah that is what I was thinking too, start simple and build on the idea. I would love to start a "prototype farm" locally to test the idea out.
Then if it works well it would be awesome to see something like that expanded across the whole country.
Imagine if you could hitchhike across the country stopping at state sponsored farms/ shelters for food/ bedding in return for some labor.
Seems like it could be incredibly helpful for those in need as well as benefiting anyone looking to travel on a budget.
One of the last people to start a country was a pirate radio host in Europe I believe, he had some artificial island of sorts, it might have even been a huge boat, and he started his own country so he wouldn't have to comply with british broadcasting restrictions or something. He actually got away with it for awhile as he was located out at sea I believe but they shut him down eventually.
Also apparently someone recently founded "liberland" in Europe: http://time.com/3825100/man-claims-new-country-europe/

If anyone pulled that in the US they would get shut down ASAP though I am sure...

I also like the idea of doing something similar to the bristol campground to keep the money flowing.
Spitballing but maybe you could do workshops, teach city folks about the various crafts we would do, or have some small vacation cabins people could rent, or hippie campground, something like that anyway..financially support the place without doing a whole lot.

Workshops would be awesome! I have always wanted to go to some, would be even cooler to host my own once I have some skills worth sharing
I had a similiar vacation cabin idea. Start a country and or get some land, build cabins/ tents to rent out for income and offer freely to people in need.
I was planning out a crowdfunding campaign of sorts to start a country or buy an island awhile back with another member on here Vacation cabins/ tents would be some of the rewards.

Pris I work with people who have their M.B.A. that make as much as I do. And I don't have any degree. I should mention my salary is just a hair of what is considered middle class income. Ime who you know is far more important that your accomplishments in this generation. Edit again ~ had to look it up. We are in the lower middle class. Not by a whole lot, none of us are in the middle middle.
sounds like people that dont want to go anywhere, an associates degree in the company I work for can land you in a $70k+ per year position, it doesnt matter if it's a degree in engineering, business administration or sports medicine. of course with a post grad degree in certain fields such as business admin or engineering, it's not difficult to make $95k+ where I work.
so the question I would ask is "why?". why are they in the $30k range, the reasons I can imagine are a shitty market for their skills, shitty marketing of their skills, shitty skills or unwilling to apply themselves
