Right now I have about 14 pasty plates with PDA all growing pan cyan Jamaican mycelium. The myc seems happy as can be and had no trouble growing out on it. Spores I swabbed on the plates (print taken in Feb 2018) all germinated within 3-6 days.
This PDA recipe is just copied from pasty’s easy agar thread, and it worked great for my pans:
1 Tsp powdered agar (5 mL & ~2.5g) 2 Tsp potato flakes (10 mL) 1/2 cup water 1-2 drops of raw natural honey 1-2 Drops food coloring of choice
I made sure to stir the potato flakes into hot water as the first step, in order to dissolve as much from it as possible to help with the issue of all the flakes settling on the bottom. I also adjusted my agar to be slightly softer (less agar powder) because I heard somewhere that pan myc likes softer agar (don’t take as truth, I just read it on here somewhere).
Results may vary.

Man, you guys are tough on that poor old dude. I like him. Mind you, i sat there and watched him contaminate his project, but he did get a few flushes. I mean, he showed how he did it and at the end he had a pan of pans. So, if you're just looking to get some for consumption then i dont see the problem.
Sorry, ive watched that video for years and i just like the old bastard. I mean, he's one of us.
Also, David didnt say they wont grow on malt extract agar, he said They dont perform well on malt agar alone. He then says its not known what makes horse manure so beneficial, as there is very little scientific research in this area.
I just knocked up two dishes with pan cope bisporus and i added powered horse manure. We'll see how it plays out.

So I started some spores from a print and swabbed to MAE...I just saw on mushrooms.com that they say not to MEA... Obviously you all are using it...anyone know why they are saying not to?

From what ive read, Pan mycelium doesnt do well on Malt agar alone and that manure must be added for them to germinate. I saw it on YouTube with the David Barlow guy and also on the website you mentioned. However, i came here and numerous trusted cultivators say that its not true. I can say that my dishes with manure added exploded with growth in just 3 days. The regular malt agar plates are just now showing a little cloud of germination. If done correctly i honestly dont think it can hurt. I mean, in the David barlow video, he does use this technique and he does produce a tray of very healthy pans. So, i guess the manure speeds things up, but is not absolutely necessary.

I've never used anything but MEA or PDA for Pan species. I have had a better germination rate for Pans on agar than Cubes actually. The agar is just a 2D surface for isolating clean myc and a jumping off pint. Once on grains , it doesn't care what type of agar it was on.
If you have trouble with germination, and the spores are good, sometimes you just need to fiddle with stiffness , nutrients etc.
Its a cool idea adding Hpoo none the less

I find pan spores to germinate faster with a bit of warmth. BUT this is also a double edge knife in that, extra warmth also speeds bacteria growth. I try to shoot for low to mid 70's, like 72-75 for where my pan germination plates set. Actually this is what I do for anything exotic that likes it warm.

Well, i just did transfers on my others but ive left this one alone because it looks great and is spreading out very evenly. Its a terrible picture but you can see the circle moving out. Dish is very clean with no signs of bacteria. One of the other jars had possible bacteria, but not sure. I transfered it anyway just to be sure.
The mycelium shown here looks good, but theres many gentics here. So, plan to grow out and clone the best. Ive only ever done one other Orissa clone and it was a 100% success.

Well, this one dish is almost ready for grains. Pan bisporus So, im not sure if the manure has anything to do with the speed of colonization.

Good to know I just made 8 light malt agar plates inoculated with cyanescens (first spore print)

This is good to know because i didnt like purtung the manure in there afraid of contams, but i guess it wont contam more than anything else. Just an added step.

I like David Barlow and his detailed grow tek for Pan Cyans. He has passed away which is a shame, as you say he is another person out there trying to help others and he does grow a nice tray of Pans. I’ve grown Pan spores of PDA but will try adding some horse manure next time and do a comparison for people. You never know the final mushroom may be more potent when raised on agar with manure compared to those raised on plain MEA agar. As you know with most living things, the best nutrition you give at at an early stage results in most cases a strong and healthy adult. Cheers from Australia👍😃
