4+ weeks after birthing and STILL no pins! PLEASE HELP!
    #23843711 - 11/17/16 10:38 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

So I followed the PF Tek to the letter using the Poor Man's Terrarium (the plastic bottles with the middle cut out). They colonized the jars reasonably fast, none took more than a month. The strain is Puerto Rican.

And I waited...and waited...and waited. They got fluffy and white. I tried cold shocking (dunking in fridge) for 12-16 hours, on some of the cakes I've done it twice.

It's been over 4 weeks for some of my cakes, and there is STILL no pinning. Some of them formed knots at some point, but no pinning. At this point, I'm desperate to try anything just to get one little pin. I have tried fanning less, fanning more, misting less, misting more...nothing works.

PLEASE HELP!

Your fruiting conditions are far from ideal.

They look like they can't breathe. Why didn't you just build an SGFC instead of all those pods?

There is NO way those are getting enough FAE for fruiting. Build a real SGFC or drill a bunch of small holes all over those bottles in a grid pattern, similar to the SGFC. They got to have some thing.

You already got some good answers here. Another option is to remove the bottle lid and put in some loose polyfill.
But a SGFC is the better way to fruit cakes.

If you wanna keep your setup, try to fan them out every so often when you walk past them, and most them as needed. You might be able to get away with just putting a fan in the room, but don't point it at them directly.

Yup, they're suffocating; the fuzzy mycelium is a clue. If you are desperate to try anything to get one little pin, then try fruiting them in a proven successful chamber instead of this wack system. However you want to fruit them, you need to figure out how to get them more fresh air. This bottle tek is some old school shit from when common thinking was that humidity was king. We now know that fresh air is more important than humidity.

If I were leaving these poor cakes in the bottles, I'd personally just remove the bottle lid and leave the bottle mouth wide open. No polyfill.

Definitely a FAE (Fresh Air Exchange) issue.
In all reality-you would be better off with fruiting those cakes in the open air and misting them whenever the verm becomes dry than keeping them in those suffocation chambers.

Your fruiting priorities start off with FAE. Humidity is second.

The Shotgun Fruiting Chamber provides constant FAE as well as the means to keep proper humidity near the mycelium where it matters.

The TEK you are using is incredibly out-dated and will not give you the conditions you need for fruiting bodies to develop.

Get those things some FAE however you can. They will pin whenever they get some air!

and welcome to the Shroomery!

I could give a lot of pointers for how you might make this work, but honestly, why didn't you just build an SGFC?

Better yet, spawn those suckers to a CVG mini mono or two.

Heres a poor mans pod done right:
