Also agree with this. I think in large part I feel like I'm always keeping depression at bay, rather than conquering it, because I've been depressed for so long. I can only count a few times I would say I was truly happy... and at the end of those few stints I cracked like an egg. I think fear of failure, of falling, comes into play for alot of people like me. I used to think really what was the point of being happy if I would just be sad again?
It's really hard not to fall into that mindframe. It's hard to be open and honest with yourself, about how you really feel, and why you feel it, if you even should feel it. Emotions are a very fickle thing. I tried with being emotionally numb for a good long time too. Which ended with me cracking alot worse than an egg.
It's a hard balance for someone to learn something they should have and did not when they were a child. I see it all the time, even if not with negativity in this sense. There will always be a reason to feel something you may not exactly want to feel, but are inclined to. The difficulty is sorting out when you should have that natural reaction to something and when it's unhealthy and you're going to far with it. Alot of adults have this problem.
The biggest thing I got going for me is stubbornness. But if I did not have passions I know I would not have that and I'd probably be doing nothing but letting that negativity grow and fester until I eventually killed myself or went back to drugs. Can't say these aren't still appealing ideas sometimes.

To focus on the negative (potential or actual) is a very important trait that helped our ancestors survive.
The mind is prone to focusing on the negative. Neurologists call it the "negativity bias" of the brain.
Imagine you are living in a cave with 14 people, and you need someone to keep watch every night.
The anxious fearful negative pessimistic person is most highly qualified to keep watch!

I agree and I think alot of people get stuck in depressive cycles in this day and age because there is no true enemy. We don't have to worry about predators or starvation. We don't have something to focus our fight on, so to speak. Modern society absolutely confuses the biology of the mind.
Being said I do not encourage ignoring your worries or concerns, thats a good way to make them manifest into something worse. It's better to address and recognize them for what they are. Tis a difficult balance at times, for sure.

I don't encourage ignoring worries or concerns.
Just observing their validity and helpfulness.

Anonymous said: Recently i've made some bad choices that have ended me up in some terrible places. It all stemmed from a relationship. I used to be in really good shape but I done put on about 40 pounds from unhealthy eating and not working out.
This sucks. I went to a PT session today and could barely do the exercises.
Is there hope for me? I feel like i'm 50 years old body wise.. Never have I bad in this bad of shape before.. plus I have back problems.. thoughts advice welcome..
Keep in mind, when it comes to back pain it is vital to strengthen what has atrophied.
The good news is: muscles have memory.
Sstick with pt and youll but back at it in no time.
