Rapid Lime?
    #9551664 - 01/05/09 03:05 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I bought myself some rapid lime today,  it was the only brand they had and i had to go to three stores...

just want to make sure it is alright for my casing soil,  i wont be using any gypssum - no one has it...

here are the specs for the lime

Rapid Lime

Calcium  (25%)
Magnesium (10%)
Iron (2%)
Calcium Carbonate (62%)
Magnesium Carbonate Equivalent  (40%)

these are the percents on the bag...

also can anyone tell me how much i should be adding?

I am thinking that rapid lime is not what you want, instead its hydrated lime (planter's lime) that you want.  Quick(fast) lime is CaO while hydrated is Ca(OH)2

anything more than 3% Magnesium and there is a high chance it will burn the mycellium.

yeah , different brands of hydrated lime with have varying amounts of Mg, find the one that has less than 2%

Is rapid lime hydrated lime? Even if not will it still work for casing? The only thing close I could find was hydrated lime with calcium, but mine has :
38% calcium
.40% magnesium
95% calcium carbonate
1.50% magnesium carbonate

Someone please let me know if this is okay to use and should I use 1 part of this out of 10 for my casing or 1/4 partt?
