Took this one in late September and forgot about it. There was only one and I didn't want to dig it up for proper id. Sure is beautiful though.

Do you have anymore pictures of it?
Maybe it's something like Amanita bisporigera

That was my thought too. I was in kind of a hurry that day, but couldn't resist at least getting a picture of it. That's the only picture I got of it. I didn't uncover the vulva anyway. I do remember exactly where I found it so I guess I could go look for more. It's not that far from here. Actually I think I'll go do that. I've got nothing to do today anyway.

Those don't look like the same genus as the first one.

Definitely not. Looks like Inocybe geophylla to me.

That might be something like Amanita pantherina, does it have 'hoop-like rings' above the vulva?

That slug had chewed off a lot of the ring, but yeah, I could see them being described as "hoop like."

I just recently got into inactive species. I'll do more formal I'd requests from now on seeing as you guys are pretty receptive on this forum. I'm starting to understand why people are so taken with mycology.
Here are a few more pictures I took today.
Puff balls.

These were bigger than my hand.

Amanita pin?

This was found quite a way down the road from the other Amanita.
I'm just out having fun today. I know they aren't formal id requests but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks.

I will go back. I'm assuming by your enthusiasm they are prized?
Well, it seems in fact they are. I'll go get em.

They do have an oder to them, I just can't think of a way to describe it.

Maybe a little like cinnamon?

Yeah man, those are in my opinion Tricholoma magnivelare. Maybe wait for a second opinion before you eat them. They look a little weathered though... The one in the middle and the other smaller one don't look like they are in too bad a shape to eat. This is the first year I've found them, they are fucking dank.

Damn. Thanks man. Talk about dumb luck. I have that spot memorized now. It's not on anyone's property that I can tell. I will be waiting and watching for sure.
I'll wait for a second TI but in the mean time, know any good recipes?

Where there is one there are always more, I would scout that area for bumps in the duff and look for more. These things can get huge but when they are small and opened they are in their prime. Be sure to do an ID check because there are look alike that can grow in the same area that are toxic.

It's getting dark out, but I will go back tomorrow for sure. Funny thing, I went out looking for destroying angels and came back with apparently the most expensive mushrooms in the world.
I've done some reading now too, and "wet socks and red hots" is a perfect way to describe their smell haha.

What are the toxic look alikes? The closest look alike I know is Catathelasma, which is edible just too tough to eat.
I mean besides the deadly white Amanita in the OP that looks kinda similar...

Nice finds Vision! This year was the first time I found matsutake too.
My favorite way I've cooked them so far was breading slices in a panko crumb and flour mix, frying them, and dipping in marinara sauce. These things are fucking dank!
