First Time Grower Cakes getting fuzzy in the fruiting chamber (+pics included)
    #23841086 - 11/17/16 09:47 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hello fellow Schroomers,

Noob in need for some advice/reassurance here.

So it's been almost one week after birthing my cakes (11.11.2016) and there's this kind of fuzzy white stuff growing (mycelium?) and no pins yet.
Fruiting chamber is in my wardrobe with only a small opening in a 150 square feet room (14m2), could this be the cause? bad fresh air exchange?
Should I open the windows to bring in new air? It's 50°F outside (10°C)

The jars were left fully colonized for about a month (was abroad)
Dunked for 24hours and rolled
This is the result so far

This is how my setup looks right now

Strain is Psilocybe Cubensis Cambodian

Also wrote a log journal of the begining of my adventure if you want to know more about what I did.

that is indeed mycelium and it gets fuzzy from lack of FAE.

Try moving the fruiting chamber to into the room.

But if for legal reasons that u need to leave it in the closet, then leave as needed

If u have to leave in closet, at least move into the middle of the closet.

Maybe run a small fan in the room next to the grow closet.

I'm no expert as I've only been doing this for about 4 months now.  However, they look fine to me there's always a bit more mycelium growth once going into your fruiting chamber.  If everything is within range you should start to see some pins in 4-5 days.

I run 4 PMPs hooked up to a 1200 gal pond pump so I dont need to worry about FAE at all and those look exactly like my cakes a few days before they pin.

Yes, I need to leave it in the closet
Anyways cleared some space inside the closet, put it further away from the walls and will open the window couple times a day to let some fresh air in and leave it open.

I taught there should be no fan running near the fruiting chamber?
I have a computer running 24/7 in that room 10ft (3m) away from the closet if that changes anything.

Had to look up what PMP means  sounds interesting, but I would preffer to get the basics right (as everyone suggests) and then move on to other methods, thank you for the input though, learned something new!

I'll try and post a daily pic so you guys can fallow the progression.
Keep it up guys!

PMP stands for Pump. As in air pump. Not sure why it was shorten PMP but whatevas...

Its an old way of providing FAE and it doesnt work that well.

Bravo .... Fuckin Bravo... You are correct on the no fan with a sgfc, your set up is legit just needs to come away from the wall a bit... Your cakes look good, you want to keep them glistening like dew on the morning grass... Dont worry about fanning there are 500 holes in that fruiting chamber it will be fine... Good idea on opening the window for a while... I like this this person.

Oh yeah, you can toss that hygrometer shit out... If your perlite is hydrated and you mist when needed your RH is golden...

Thank you for your input LocN9ne, glad you like me

I'm probably just being fucking impatient for those things to pop out.
(While listening to Ekhart Tolle audiobook...)

Hygrometer is out of this bitch

Moved it as far as possible from the closet walls, about 8" (20cm) and leaving the door open at all times now.

I dont know what all the hate is on PMPs.  If you build them properly and dont use a craptastic aquarium pump from petco they work great.

This is just half my pick from the other day.

And heres just 2 mushrooms from this morning's 2 cakes I picked. B+ on the bottom GT on the top.  As you can see they arent suffering from lack of FAE.

Nice fruits!  Not really anything out of the ordinary
I do the same or better every cake grow I do without automation.

PMPs are a pain in the ass and unnecessary in a SGFC built to spec.
The idea with the SGFC is simplicity, ease of use and affordability, imo.  The cost of the pump air stone and hose I can build another SGFC, or better yet, a sab and up the game.

Spotted some pins on the other cakes too, they are hard to see though because of the similar color with the vermiculite and mycelium mix.

These are the most advanced pins

While a PMP can get some results it's about as dumb as driving a semi truck to the grocery store when you had a passenger car in your driveway

Yes, that is bad.  I'd guess a mold of some variety.  See what one of the pros has to say, I think from my cake grows you can still get some fruit from that cake.  However I'd personally toss it after it flushes.

Got this on 2 of my cakes. Should I still just leave them and see what happens or throw them away? Can't see any pins on them as well.

Will get a 6500k lamp to try it out, at the moment I have a random light bulb I had lying around no idea what luminosity it has etc.
This is the most advanced cake, some have only a couple pins yet or none to be seen.

Got a couple 6500k bulbs and those are super bright!
Way more than my previous one, so let's hope for some positive improvement.
Also changed the setup, lowered the lights to heat up a bit the fruiting chamber.
Temperature were between 17°C (62°F) at night and only up to 20°C (68°F) during the day.
Put the hygrometer back in for thermal analysis only  :headbang:
