The whole concept of banning a class of weapons is not tenable, I do believe they (firearms) should be harder to purchase and require training and a clean background to own -- however, I wouldn't, nor would a lot of others, have trouble building a functional railgun or in the case of the boston bombers, destructive devices.

What we're seeing now is a complex slew of gun related violence due to ideological and mental health concerns. Gun violence and the lot is just a symptom of much deeper problems rooted in flaws in humanity. As we progress as humanity, not a country or nation, I think these problems will fade.

More so, if these problems are not fixed in the coming years before high energy density materials (required for advanced technology, and weaponry) become easier to attain, we'll have a much larger problem with extremist violence. Right now you can see what a Galaxy Note 7 will do to a jeep, with a relatively simple chemical battery. When, not if, we reach the point of nano-scale energy storage, a battery the size of the Note 7's could effectively be turned into an incredibly powerful weapon.

Hackers can effectively (and succeeded in doing so before a security update) turn teslas into carbombs by changing firmware related to electrical systems management, or just remotely hijack the vehicle altogether. A ban on hacking or finding vulnerabilities simply is impossible to enforce at its core.

In relation to governmental policy, giving the government more power in exchange for a false sense of security is not the answer. Violent crime reduction lies in ideological reform and effective mental health policy (general intelligence and education both being factors as well), not in superficial bans.

To answer the question, IF giving up my guns solved the problem magically, I would -- however, it wouldn't solve anything, even if everyone complied. Gun policy is a massive political posturing point where many people stop thinking rationally and are pulled to a pole in the political spectrum, because thinking through the issue and coming up with solutions is much more difficult than saying "ban this shit" or "more guns make us safer" when neither is the case.

There is not an easy solution, if banning guns would work, I would be on that side in a heartbeat.

Government pacifying its people with shiny objects and money in exchange for more power over its constituents is a slippery slope.  Ever delve into the fall of Rome?  Their politicians would literally try and out-promise each other to The People to keep their power, and The People just wanted free shit so they went for whoever was offering more free shit to them.  Can you imagine the corruption?  When the government promises you things, you should always question their motives because the government isn't an altruist.

Some people don't work for a paycheck either; they work to keep their business running and write paychecks for other people.  How do they fare in the scenario?

they have their business so they can attempt to make a decent paycheck themselves, it's just they have money tied up in their business, that needs be appropriated to the right payments, so their tied up money doesn't end up all in their hands, it goes towards maintaining the business, which is how they make their money.

if your business isn't worth much, you're being paid very little for practically no real payoff, other than you can say you did it. managing business includes taking on risk.

just because it's a nice thing to own a business...should everyone have to compete on that same playing field of owning your own business? if everyone did that, competition would be scarce...people would just pick their favorite business to interact with, and they were usually be in some price-range, and some distance that they prefer, and that's it. not because of quality, because who'd be able to advertise that their business is better than the rest, when there is such a huge number of businesses...they can't all be bad, or rather, if any of them are bad, it's the ones whom just can't compete with X -- and X will reign supreme.

then what does the rest of Y do to fare in that scenario?

everyone wants to think they just prescribe a way of life, and how one can "contribute" best to their community, society, and themselves as an individual.

people don't free shit. they want the government to govern. the govern helps big business govern...the people want more. or they don't know what they want, because this is the direction they are going, if they don't like it, then stop. :cookiemonster:
