Picking in November too late?
    #23839349 - 11/16/16 04:15 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hi everyone,

I am new to this but was wondering if you could offer some advice in terms of optimum time to find liberty caps. Mid November too far gone in the season? Will it be too cold to find any now?

I've read autumn is the time of year but then I've read people saying July and October so a little confused and wonder if it's worth continuing to look?

In the UK what month would you say it's good to search, and what month would you say it's too late?

Any information would be appreciate but looking for personal information from personal experiences if you don't mind sharing.

If the ground has frozen solid where you are then it's too late, even if it subsequently defrosts. Has it?

No, it's been wet. I live in the midlands, general been warm in oct/November. There have been a few cold days where the ground may have hardened but never frozen. I'm finding other types of mushrooms in the soil and grass so is that a good indicator? If the cold had affected liberty cap growth would it also affect other grass growing mushrooms?

Unless you have gotten some really cold nights they will continue to fruit in flushes until it does.

It has started to get cold, but it's autumn and there are similar things growing. There are a couple more sheep grazing fields I'm going to check out but I'm not feeling confident. If only there was other alternatives. Oh well...

I've seen people swarming for libs as late as early Dec. When 2 or 3 days of good sun and warmth come, and doesn't drop to freezing too fast, you'll still find them and pellies.
