I was thinking of mixing some liquid fertilizer in the water so I can add to the casing layer. Do you think that would be good, for the production and growth of shrooms.

The liquid fertilizer isnt going to help the shrooms grow. They eat carbohydrates mostly and lots of plain old water. The shrooms would just basically suck up the fertilizer and then you would ingest the unchanged chemicals when you ate them. Not Good! I doubt the idea of drinking that liquid fertilizer is very appealing to you. Plants,on the other hand, use sunlight and nutrients from the soil to generate energy and growth via photosenthesis. The little mushies dont contain any chlorophyl and dont use this process to live and prosper,so put the fertilizer in your weed garden and there you will see good results.
If you add the dextrose you would certainly be providing the mushies with useable food, but you would also be providing a perfect breading ground for contamination so I cant say that it would be a good idea at all.
If you want to give them a nice nutritious substrate you should look into using horse or cow poo. They work fantastically and grow some mighty nice specimens.
Hope this helps! Good Luck! MYKEY

You don't want to add anything to your casing layer. The whole purpose of applying a casing layer is to provide a NON-NUTRITIOUS layer for fruiting,it holds moisture to provide to the mushrooms during growth and increases the size and number of flushes. It doesn't allow contams as easy because they have nothing to feed off of. You can add dextrose to your substrate during preparation and it increase yeild, but I would not add anything to the casing layer. My two pennies!

Completely wrong. The whole mycelium are not plant's they don't need nutrients is so wrong. They share they same basic nutrient requirement, the same as humans and plants.
I have done hundreds of various tests on nutrients and carbon sources. Mycelium can convert and use many elements and vitamins.

Actually instead of the liquid fertilizer spawn mate makes supplements that mixed veg oil and pasteurization together is used for edibles and works with cubes too. It can double the speed of your colonizing the bulk sub and increase yeild about 20%. The bad is the price of product, super increase in sub temps like 15 degrees worth. Increase contam in everything.

High protein based if I remember correctly. You can add N direct to skip digestion.

IDK if that was reply failure or not but I never mentioned that My point was that even tho people here know how to grow most know painfully little about what exactly they are growing.
this used to be a forum filled with mushroom enthusiasts and nerds who wanted to learn how to grow, now its a bunch of people who just wanna grow the magic but dont know squat about it.
