Wtf is a "brick" of coir?!

Here in Denver, coir bricks from the grow store are 5 kilos/11 pounds. Is this what is meant by a brick? Ive expanded these before and don't think a 5 gal is enough space
Is 650 grams correct? These 5000 gram bricks are all ive seen.

A brick of 650g is what the most people around here would call a brick of coir. It depends where you live. I have seen bigger and smaller bricks of coir, too.

yeah that's a huge brick of coir, most pet stores have 650g bricks as you pointed out. 5gallons is definitely not enough for your 5kg brick, just chip off ~650g and follow the bucket tek.
you can of course scale the bucket tek after your own preferences.

Appreciate it bro!
I paid 20 for 5kg coir and 20 quarts vermiculite. Wonder if PetSmart is cheaper. They're ordering a 4 cu ft bag of verm for me. This will be my first mono tub. Ive got about 60 quart jars colonizing from ms, pf slurry, and liquid agar innoc.
My b+ mycelium is growing so great on agar, but I wonder if the fruits aren't kinda weak... I dunno. It took my 9 grams dry to get to a level 2.5, but the golden teachers were about the same. Got Puerto Rico. Costa Rica, huatla, and pf classic. As well as b+ and gt from the first go.

Is coir coir? I was looking at typical hydro store bricks and some have added Trichoderma...

That ain't a pallet though, that's a normal order from a certain pet supply website that offers free shipping on all orders over $19, and their 3 pack of Eco Earth is $4.

That's a joke right? No one would intentionally add trich into coir.
In case you're serious, I've found that Exo Terra is the cleanest. Many people agree that it's good. Right now I'm using millenium soils, which is not as clean, but it's so cheap! (found some ripped up plastic bag pieces, and a few seeds). Then there's "beyond peat" by natura which is also good and cheap.
Proper pasteurization can be done. Even sterilization is OK with coir. I love coir. But really all you need is bucket tek.

i read that Trichoderma is beneficial to the root system of plants and is therefore added to some growing mediums.

I'm wondering how these companies actually add trich to coir? Is there a market for trich spores or what?

its not trich spores afaik, trich is used in south america to avoid coffee bean plants to rot in the high RH environment. it keeps mold etc away from roots. we all know trich is fuckin aggro against mushroom myc of all sorts.

Yes there are a lot of companies that even breed and cross breed trich. Its the easy way to destroy white molds which damage roots. Look up the common banana how it is cloned out . one white mold learns to eat that plant we lost them all without trich.

A brick of coir measures roughly 2" x 4" x 10". Get them at the pet store in the reptile section.
You know.... You could always just PC the coir.
Hydro shops do sell big blocks of coir with the trich already added. As stated above, it's for the plant roots. I remember seeing a video of Jorge Cervatez throwing a cup of trich straight into his MMJ soil mix.
But, if you're limited to this type of coir (trich added) then I recommend you PC the coir prior to spawning. There are plenty of sources (via search function) which prove sterilized coir does just as well as pasteurized coir.
If you're doing the bucket tek, you're already partially sterilizing your substrate anyway.
Now I will add, if you plan to add any kind of amendments to your substrate like coffee, bran, flax.... You'll need to do a proper pasteurization.
But consider sterilizing. I've done it. It works.

if you dont wanna drag trich into your house you better get ready to stay indoors for the rest of your life. soil is riddled with trich no matter where you go.
pasteurization kills trich too. easily.

In the description of my coir brick (known german brand) it's written:
"Slightly fertilized".
Could this be a problem if I just use the bucket tek?
