I put TC's only because any time i put up an isolation question most people say you should have put that to grain already

To be honest isolation is a pain in the ass. Maybe you already have some good clones and done a bunch of ms grows so an isolation project isn't holding you back. But waiting on isolates to test before fruiting is also a waste IMO. That's probably why people say to just get it to grain.

yeah, nothing wrong with taking 1 transfer to a new plate to isolate further and use the rest of the plate on some grains.
dont sit around :waitingpatiently: for an isolate with nothing else on your plate (pun not intented). not saying you are just saying if you are, then dont :super:

I haven't had much luck with clones yet gotta keep trying.  Is it easier to just isolate from a clone? I saw this post and it seems like he was able to get mono's with just a few transfers.

Those were an ms clone fruit clones are a bit more reliable them ms and with a clone you dont have as many strains still alot but no where near ms if you dilute the spores its easier for an isolate

That's what I was thinking it narrows down way more then just from spores.  So I'm just going to keep on isolating but I'll take Spacechildo's advice and just start putting the rest of the plates to grain to work on some clones in the mean time.  When it comes to this hobby I think the more you can put into the pipeline to test the better haha

I spent a few months isolating a MS culture while fruiting MS tubs and clones. I finally just put my monoculture to the test and......slow colonization and small fruits regardless of conditions.

Here's a pic:

If this were my only project, and I waited months and months to fruit this- I might have quit the hobby! Lol

If you're isolating as a side-project, good on you. If it's your only project-be prepared for a slow colonizing, small fruit tub. If you are extremely lucky you'll get an awesome culture.
If your luck jar has run out-be prepared for a block of mycelium that won't even fruit....
