Just birthed -- is this a pin or contaminant?
    #23836790 - 11/15/16 08:18 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hello everyone,

Just birthed these two cakes. All month long growth seemed healthy. I assumed these were pins telling me it was time to come out. But I'm unsure about the darker one. Thoughts?

Just a bruised up pin, I'd pull both those off before dunk and roll

just bruised pins on what looks to be healthy, colonized cakes.  Feel free to dunk and roll with the pins attached to see if they continue to grow or remove them before hand.  Your real first flush should start once the cakes are in the fruiting chamber and exposed to fresh air exchange for awhile.  Might take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks to see more pins, but you're on your way.  Good Job and welcome to the forum Mr. Wattz.

I suspected as much. And upon closer examination, can confirm bruised pin. Thank you for the welcome and your timely advice guys!
