These ads are constant, in the US.
Stereotypically, the drug is supposed to treat a minor or imaginary condition.
Then, they warn that it kills you, in dozens of strange ways.
But, we are thoroughly-guilted, over self treatment, not seeing the doctor of death, or unhealthy, personal habits.

In reality, when a formal clinical trial is being conducted, anything that happens is recorded and can be characterized as an adverse event.
So when subjects come into the laboratory, the day usually begins with a basic question such as: "How are you today?." If someone says "eh, I'm feeling a bit tired today, and kinda down." It's recorded as an incident of "malaise" or "sleepiness" etc.
A similar procedure happens during actual study sessions which is why the side effect list is so long.

Many people could potentially grow or distribute ibogaine to those that need it at very little cost. Very few people could do the same for pharmaceutical drugs which are created in corporate laboratories. This is not about how safe, unsafe or even effective the drugs are. Its about control, money and power over the drugs. The goal is to maintain their monopolies, not help people.
Yeah that was kind of my point, ibogaine could be safer then water and as long as they can't patent and monopolize it they will try and demonize it.
I always wondered why it was illegal until I read about its addiction treatment potential. Hopefully it gets further researched before long.

Studies have already confirmed its potential to treat opioid addiction but it was deemed too physically unsafe to be used as a treatment. Now they are working on a chemical analog of ibogaine that is safer but has the same potential for opioid treatment. At least thats the official story

And, they are always open to the possibility of anaphylaxis, which makes the commercials very melodramatic.
Do you have a pimple, ingrown toenail, bad breath, or social apprehension. Here are signs that the end is nigh.
Get to a doctor, immediately, so he can prescribe four or five more, life-threatening remedies.
I think the doctor has useful resources, knowledge, and diagnostic tools. I am even interested in patenting some medically-applicable technologies.
I just think that the setting has ceremonial value, and people are suspending all critical judgment.
He is a professional or specialist, not a witch.
