Your thoughts on police carrying Narcan?
    #23834522 - 11/15/16 06:03 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

A lot of police forces carry narcan nowadays

What is y'all thoughts?

I heard a bunch of people say things like this in person
""I think they should let natural selection do it job!"

I think they should help when they can  and that enables a faster response

For me I can't say, I make my self sound like a idiot sometimes

But when I saw the first new report of learning some police forces carry narcan I was pretty on bourd with that cause there is good people who are addicted to opiates.
But there is also the kind of people who would hold you at gunpoint at a atm  for there next opiate dose
But that shouldn't let a bad Apple or 10ruin it

Intelligentlly discuss

of course help od's I dont get this push against narcan as if its somehow enabling junkies.

Junkies are gonna use and we might as well use common sense and the medical tools we have available to help them not die.

its a bit of basic human compassion and empathy towards others and the fact that anyone is against it scares me, there most likely a psychopath who likes to see others suffer.

I think it's great and I don't even see how one could debate otherwise.

Just because some addicts do terrible things doesn't mean all addicts should be permitted to die when their life could have been saved.

Doing heroin does not make you an inherently bad person.  It means you made a bad decision.  And I know you know all of this, Sunny, I'm just writing it to help my argument.

Sometimes a near-death OD is what brings someone back to reality and helps them get their life in check.  The person who gets saved who may not have wanted to be, well, they will have plenty more opportunities to do it to themselves if they really want to.

My sister works in a hospital with mentally unstable people which is comprised of a lot of drug addicts, she said she was surpised at how many get brought in during an OD and are PISSED when they wake up and the hospital "ruined" their high even though they'd of died otherwise.

A lot want help, a lot dont, ideally it would be cool to only help those who want it but its difficult to determine that in the midst of an OD. Plus someone who doesnt want help might reach a point where they chnage and do want help.

People tend to blame drugs for the choices of people so less dead people when it comes to drugs looks better so Im all for it, dont know how expensive it is but it is peoples lives we're talking about so that doesnt really matter to me either

That's why I'm on the fence
Cause I know narcan has saved countless good hearted people

Its the evilminded people who lie,  deceive,  hurt others mentally or physically  in there everyday lifes  that I have no patience for trying to save and waste oxygen n tax dollars  on

But regardless I'm happy they are carrying it to help any good hearted soul in trouble :sun:

You go from being extremely high to going through an extremely intense withdrawal in an instant.  It's the most intense withdrawal you will ever experience, it fucking sucks.  Also they don't know how close they were to dying.

Why is it that most people assume that if someone ODs, then they are an addict?  I've never been addicted to opioids and yet i would have died in 2013 if narcan did'nt exist.  Not to say that an addict is less deserving ov life ov course, but i find it interesting how people jump to conclusions.

A friend overheard a paramedic labeling me as just another junkie whom he did'nt care if i died in the street or not.  Many EMTs and police are horrible people who do not care if one dies or not without knowing them personally, but they're entitled to perform their job.  A cop is more likely to abuse their job, but having the option there to PROTECT and serve is obviously a good thing.

I don't think my tax dollars should be paying to keep losers alive. People have to pay for their children's life saving medications but Narcan is free, something wrong with that.

Narcan is not expensive. It used to be extremely cheap and the companies that own it continually rise price, but even then it's not remotely expensive. I don't know what people are going on about when it comes to the "cost". It's like $20 to $40 a dose. It's certainly much cheaper to treat someone with Narcan than to deal with a dead body. The sentiment that they are addicts and deserve to die is a pretty horrible outlook.

Western medicine pushes opiates, and a large portion of addicts start because of completely unnecessary pain pill prescriptions. Some people are more likely than others to become addicted, and there isn't exactly proper oversight with the shit. To act like Narcan is an issue because it keeps a junkie alive is the wrong way to think about the problem. The problem is that we allow large opiate prescriptions for minor bullshit like teeth extraction and knee surgery and expect everyone to remain addiction free.

Yes, keep stuff like Narcan on stock. There is no compelling reason not to.

There is no sentiment that there addicts and that's why i want them to die

I feel for true righteous good hearted beings that are addicted to hard opiates like diactylmorphine (heroin)
And I'm glad for those who have been revived

Not so much for evil fucks though

The opiate problem,  along with  fentanyl and that's lethal in the single digit mg range
Just a speckof fentanyl on a opiate naive person would kill them!
There is some evil fucks out there

Btw one more time if it's not already clear

I am glad narcan exists,  it has saved countless live's

*****Conspiracy theory nut job warning

Maybe the DEA is the ones behind the mass fentanyl lacings :tinfoil:

The only advice I would consider listening too is statistics and a handful of pros. I pay no attention to all these part time players that think they know the game. I will only consider tips from a guy that consistently wins at the casino I'm at. Then again, I have no idea what they do once I'm gone.

I hear people  in public ask it and talk about this very thing

Esp if any new stations play a story about cops carrying narcan  played on TV recently

I'm surrounded by  baaaaaaah's baaaaah' s sheep who repeat anything CNN told them
I've just heard ignorant stuff about this argument in person wanted to see how it was in a rational environment

Just wanted to see what D pub's thoughts were,  thought it could make for a  opiate narcan discussion if even just for a page

Sorry if I'm trying to post something non political:lol:

Not even a question. Absolutely.

Sunny, I love ya, but you seem to have some questionable views on drugs and addiction sometimes. Don't forget that for a good chunk of time you were somewhat of an opioid addict yourself.

I have never known a junkie to do such a thing, and I have known a ton of junkies.  This is just my experience though.  The majority of junkies I knew in the past would rather be sick than rob someone with a weapon for a fix.

The only junkies I heard of but didn't know that robbed people at gunpoint or with weapons, were black.  This is just my experience though, I understand there are junkies from every race that do such things, and I don't want to sound racists, but all the robberies I heard of in the past were involved with black people.  Sure you have suburban white kids stealing anything else of value to pawn for their fix, but I can't recall in a decade of being involved in such a scene, of ever hearing about one of them strong arming someone for a fix, just my experience though.

Regarding firemen/police officers carrying narcan, well I think it's a good thing.  One of those junkies could get their life together and actually really be able to help others get their lives together, you know if you're a junkie you're bound to only listen to someone that has been through what you have been through.  You wont listen to a cop who has no experience with drugs telling you to get your shit together, most people will find themselves back in the same ruinous habits, you have to learn from those that have been through what you have been through as a junkie.  So if narcan saved an individual, and they went on to help others, well then good on them.

This world is always going to have junkies.

I vote we have the police ask the addict if they are a good person before administering it.
