Drying mushrooms
    #23834464 - 11/15/16 04:35 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hello. My first batch just came out and in looking to dry it. After researching i would like to know if simply leaving the shrooms wrapped in a paper towel would suffice. I dont have a fan or dessicants and no i dont have a dehydrator either. Please do not give me shit for not having these 3 things or even suggest them. I simply want to lnow if leaving them wrapped in a dry paper towel will work and if not wat methods are there that dont include a fans dehydrators and dessicants? Thank you.

Hey kaius,

Well I am havin the same problem as you, because I don't have any of that stuff eather. So what I did was to put the shrooms on my heater with some form of leverage that they dont touch it because the heater itself gets too hot for my liking, but the warm air seems to be just perfect. But one problem with that is, that they get just almost cracker dry so I have to buy some dessicants (you can get them on amazon for really cheap) to suck the remaining water out of them.
So if you have a heater in your room try it out.

Regards Ica

Thank you for your reply. How long did you leave the shrooms in front of the heater?

For about 1.5 days so I'd reccomend 24-48 hours and make sure you put the shrooms where the warm air flows for me it was on top of the heater. Don't know what kind of heater you have. Good luck

u can also dry in an oven, low temp like 250F, and open the door. check often so u dont overcook.

I use my oven too, with the fan in the oven on, on 160 F. 250 is definitely way too high. My shit takes like 10+ hours to dry this way, but it dries.

250 is still 100 degrees lower than the melting point of 350

Better safe than sorry, to be honest. Dehydrators are usually around 160 F as well, from what I've heard people say.

But you won't be sorry with 250.. just ask cron. He PCd shrooms at 15 psi (~250F) with no loss in potency. You can deep fry shrooms too.

Then why are people so obsessed with low temperatures when drying? I can't say you're wrong because I've never tried it, but people on here generally say you should have the lowest temperature available when drying, right?

Have you tried using the shroomery search function properly?

Lots of people complain the search function sucks, and gives outdated info. Try clicking the 2 pics above this!

When using the search function like that everyone says dehydrator on max setting, not to worry about heat, and recommend against low settings. I do max setting for 24 hours regardless of if they dry in 6-18 hours. Better to be "over dry" than under dry.

I think that car metaphor is a little harsh. Cause ive dried shrooms with a mere desk lamp (aka Power Wheels) and it dried (drove) just fine.

In a dry climate like mine Ive left shrooms on the counter and they were ready for 1 hr of oven by 48ish hours.

But I'm pretty sure we can all agree it seems ridiculous that there's no fans available. Oven + fan is a great combo. Not all ovens have fans built in. Mine definitely doesn't.

Please refrain from making idiotic metaphors. Unlike petrol, ID and tyres (which are all necessities) i have been given two other options other than the 3 i mentioned.

I won't make a metaphor. But I do feel that if you can't afford a 30 dollar item to ensure your hard work is preserved properly, perhaps you should rethink your priorities. I spend more than that on coffee in a week. Most people smoke that in weed in 3 or 4 days. Food for thought.

In the area I live, a fan would be on that list of necessities. Honestly, even if you don't have that and can't find a dehydrator in your price range, dessicants are still a <$10 option.
