My birthday is the 21st. So if you wanna cry the night before that's fine. But I'm going to need all the bartenders in a large radius to be on top of their game.

The very wealthiest people in society profit off of the productive work of everyone else. Therefore, the only way to hit them in the pocketbook is to be less productive. It's a perfectly sound strategy to get a political point across to the people who are largely insulated from any other form of protest. The problem is that like any strike, it can only be effective with vast public support, and if it is a maintained effort. 1 day won't cut it. 2 days per week over the course of 3-6 months might. Like any other strike, hardships would be incurred on all sides, and if there are too many scabs, attrition will wear down the strikers.

I get strikes, it just seem you really have to organize to be in any way effective. You can't just name a date, post about it online and expect the revolution to snap in action of course the whole thing works like this for a reason, capitalism is a sturdy beast.

What a joke. I'll gladly be taking a job of someone who thinks they can't show up to work on that day. By all means. Trump creating more jobs. Well played. 2.5 million people want to move to Canada. Another 2.5 million jobs.
Well probably a million most are probably liberal arts students thinking they have value.
Killing it.

let's wait 8 years and see how things are then, that'll be the real proof. demand labor rights and shit by all means, but anybody who just bails on work expecting to change the world on the guidance of a reddit post is just wasting their time (and deservedly going to lose their job)

nonsense, I agree with the sentiment, we ought to live in a socialist world where security is assured and all that, but even in that context I think most people would say there are circumstances in which one deserves to lose their job. Not showing up once, ok maybe a bit harsh, but making a habit of it, aside from everything else, is just plain rude really

Eh not atm. Just moved back to Washington. Saved up plenty of cash Remodling houses and such. Taking a little break.
Plus someone stole my wallet that had my ss, bc, and Id in it. So that's been a pain in my ass to get back. Just need my ss now and I'm good to get back to work. But by all means I can see myself bumping up a pay grade if this did happen. I'm more than knowledgeable enough to.
I went from 10-17.50 in 8 months. Doing various jobs. Going to set up a spray paint studio. My mentor does that as his job and doesn't work for under 100$ an hour. Plus I actually enjoy doing it. We shall see.
I'll have to take a pay cut here in Washington. But I plan to go back next spring/summer with a year of experience under my belt.

A general strike would only work if actual tradespeople all joined in solidarity. There are plenty of scabs to replace cashiers and retail workers, but there are only so many actual plumbers, electricians, longshoremen, welders, masons, teamsters, carpenters, etc.
As much as he may want to, a guy who bounces around doing odd jobs isn't going to replace a highly skilled tradesman.

I did that land surveying. Making maps. With no real qualifications.
It's generally a job for engineers. I have 1 year of college and it definitely wasn't in that field. Right time right place. It's not hard the equipment is incredibly accurate and worth about 100 grand.
I was looking it up as I was doing some landscaping for the guy. Need like 4 years of school and a license. Apparently that is incorrect. Had my partner teaching me who was a civil engineer (not even his field) we collected data. That meant a lot of mapping rivers in and out. Points always have to be in the most inconvenient spots. Generally ant hills. It was a lot of fun.
But also learning as many skills as possible on the side. I'm always willing to take a pay cut to learn. Than I don't have to. You can never have to many skills especially when it comes to building things.

I don't understand why the strike/protest didn't happen when Bernie was knocked out under shady circumstances. Should have complained then, why did no one protest hillary's nomination? Now it just looks like sour grapes. It is way past the point of protests or strikes. Suck it up and accept the next four years are with president Trump. Fuck never mind protesting, where were these clowns on election day? They should have been trying to motivate the Sheekles of the nation to get off their asses. NOW they are upset, what a joke.
