Dry mushroom to agar attempt

Hello! This is my first time using agar. I have some cubensis lying around so I decided to try to clone the dry tissue. Made the agar extra wet for this experiment. I'm not expecting much, but maybe after a few weeks mycelium will start to grow.
I also am attempting to clone some Psycolobe allenii on agar. We'll see how that goes.
Anyway, here are some pictures. I'll keep this thread updated on wether or not either of these worked.

Thanks, this place is awesome!
I have a couple other plates with gill tissue. Wanted to test out each part of the mushroom just to see which performs best. Used stem, gill and inside the caps on different agar plates.

As long as they were dried gently it should be fine...good luck.

Probably going to be a bacteria bonanza but there's a chance it will work. The cubensis have been sitting in a ziploc for 8 months. The allenii were freshly picked. Those suckers turned dark blue on agar after 24 hours. Some serious psilocin.

Does the blueness indicate alkaloid content?

Stamets writes: "Apparently, the bluing pigmentation is a result of a phenomenon paralleling the degradation of unstable psilocin (dephosphorylated psilocybin) to presently unknown compounts by enzymes within the mushroom cells."
I blended up a few mature allenii to make a slurry and it was royal blue. Pretty crazy. I'm not 100% convinced bluing has to do with potency, but it's possible it is an indicator.

Interesting. I mean I obviously have observed the "blue" but never correlated it to alkaloid content. Far out!

Bacteria bonanza is in full effect. The cubensis are surrounded by bacteria but the cloned allenii are off to an awesome start.
Notes for next time: 1. Don't make the agar super fucking wet. Hydrate the tissue beforehand instead of dealing with a soupy mess.
2. Dip the dried tissue in h2o2. The benefit of preventing bacteria far outweighs the damage done to the mycelium from h2o2.
3. Try using the gill instead of the stem.

An alternative to dipping in peroxide might be a 1:10 bleach solution. It doesn't stunt the mycelium as badly, but will give you a leg up on bacteria and mold spores.

No. Blueing is just an indicator that you might have a psychedelic mushroom in your hands. There are edible bolete mushrooms that bruise blue and have zero psychedelic compounds. There are also people on here that have grown PE that didn't blue much at all yet would melt your face off. I believe it was pasty that said the bunkest shrooms he ever grew was PE. I bet his bruised blue.

Huh, interesting, thanks. I'd love to find another decent PE swab.
