Oops, took the neglect tek a little too far...

Soo, it would appear as though I forgot to water my bridgesii for awhile.. I noticed when I brought them in because it's too cold outside now that they're pretty thirsty/shrunk..
They're going to shrink more before spring rolls around.
Hmm, toss a shot glass amount of water in their soil from time to time? Even though dormant, they're still active enough to suck up miniscule amounts of water? That would be my guess..
I just don't want any base rot. Maybe a shooter of water from time to time? Think that would work out alright?

I wouldn't water the soil as the feeder roots likely dried out and will not drink water. What you can do is mist the body at night or early morning to give it water.
Take a pic and show... maybe doesnt even need water

This is them. I know, they look horrible . They don't get the sun they need and I've been pretty bad at taking care of them correctly. They're still alive though, hanging in there. They're probably starving too. ..and need more root space.. I havent been doing as good of a job as I should..

If you see anything else that you could recommend let me know.. thanks for checking them out.

Naw man. You pretty much nailed it. They need more of everything. Good luck.

You think they'll be cool sleeping through winter? Or should I try something now?

Since they are indoors they may not be dormant yet, maybe water one more time and then leave them until march

I just brought them in night before last, they've tasted the cold so I would guess somewhere in their minds the trigger to go to bed has clicked...plus like shaman said, their "drinking roots" might be cashed..
Random question.. cactus are like 'leaf plants' and they'll foliage feed? Mist them down and they'll drink it, the water won't just evaporate off? They'll get some of it in them?

Personally I wouldn't water them... the top growth looks plump enough to make it to spring. The base is always first to get 'dehydrated' as it diverts its resources to new growth.
During the night cacti open their stomata at night and the spines are considered evolved leaves that prevent water-loss and also help collect moisture in morning dew.
Your upside down outlet is annoying me.

Oh man come spring, if you get those guys in some nice big pots with some fresh soil, and slowly acclimate them to full sun they will be some big beautiful beasts
how long have you had em? Time to start loving them or giving them to someone who will ;D

Good eye. Just noticed till you pointed it out. That would have driven my exwife crazy. She is the epitomy of organization and correctness. Which is why we dont get along. Im the antithesis...

@ modern, I didn't know that about the spines being considered leaves. When I mist them should I add a miniscule percentage of ferts, or just go straight water and save the ferts for spring?
@ the-r3dz, the 3 smaller ones will hit their 4th spring with me next year, for the other 2 bigger ones it will be their 3rd with me. They can look a lot better when I don't slack on care. I'm rather disappointed in myself with how I handled things this summer.
About the outlet, that annoys me too. I've noticed this everywhere. For instance when I was a kid sandwiches were built with the meat as the base with lettuce/tomato on top of that, now everyone puts the lettuce on the bottom and the meat/burger on top. Looks like upside down sandwiches to me... lots of things are switching over to being upside down now..

Sometimes an outlet that is controlled by a switch is intentionally installed upsidedown to distinguish it from the other outlets. Either that or a crackhead installed it.
Your cacti don't look too bad to me.

Yeah, I'll guess crackhead on this one..
Thanks for saying they look alright. Just imagine how good they would look if I would have gotten off my ass and treat them like they deserve to be treated... they've seen better days. I dropped the ball this season.
They could look soooo much better. I honestly feel horrible about it. They deserve better,.

Have you ever thought of chopping those skinny cacti up into sections and getting many more plants that way? If you provide them with ideal water and lighting and nutrients moving forward all the new growth would be nicer and potentially thicker too.

When I get to a place where I can leave them out without the chance of someone stealing them I want to cap them and do like you said so I can "get them" scar free and where they don't have skinny sections due to lack of sunlight. Being in this apartment, I only have one place to put them and it's less than ideal..
There's an Eileen and a baker there. Some cool genetics if you look close, they deserve better. My life has been a little "haphazard" but I'm doing the best I can..
I want to do just like you're saying and get some good looking scar free fat guys.. I'd like to see them with big spines too, bit their spines always get smaller when I have them. Im not sure why that happens because even in full sun their spines got smaller, except for the one...I can't figure that out.
Just so long as they stay alive, that's all that matters right now.

You bring up a good point that I've been thinking about. When I get off my ass and start taking care of them right, those skinny spots are going to be a weakness.. they're gonna break.
So, eventually I'll cap them and reroot.. those skinny parts I'll probably experiment in laying them sideways. I just need to get to a place where I can leave them out all the time. All I have now is a deck, that gets morning light and then from about noon on, shade.
If you look at those pics close, you can see each years growth. It gets plump, and then "pinches", and then widens up, and then "pinches"... you can see each years growth..
