I've got some powder in a jar that seems to still be good, according to the 4 grams I took from it last month. It's a few months old at least.

I've had good results by powdering shrooms and keeping them in the freezer. I kept them in a plastic ziploc bag. I think that if you're going to use glass, you should be careful and put some desiccant in, because the jar might attract water through condensation.
I sort of prefer powdering them, because it eliminates mushroom-to-mushroom variability in potency. Having said that, I haven't bothered to powder this season's finds.

Nothings more likely to break down the actives than powdering the shrooms. You want to dry them, jar them and freeze them. Shrooms dont seem to keep as well as DMT though even when stored in this manner. Powedering is a defo bad idea though as you are exposing far more surface area to the elements...

I wouldn't powder them to store them either. While the mushrooms are whole the psilocin and psilocybin is trapped in the mushrooms, reasonably safely protected from the big bad oxygen. However powdering would probably be a great idea if you put that powder straight into some honey as the honey will preserve it. Storing under vacuum would probably work well too, or storing under something like nitrogen so that there is no oxygen to degrade the psilo alkaloids.

How about putting powder into capsules? Can air get to the powder then? Just wondering.

You could chop the mushrooms into smaller pieces rather than completely powdering them. They'll take up less space, but they won't have such a large surface area.

No noticeable loss of potency of the trip due to having to digest the capsules?

This. Capsules are the shit.
Over an ounce can fit in a pill bottle for herbal supplements. They are stable for years when stored in the freezer. They are easy to dose, and discrete to carry on your person. The only issue I've had with them is the onset of the trip can be delayed from 30-60 minutes depending on the individual due to having to digest the gelatin -- an easy remedy to that is to open the capsules up before ingesting.
Also, invest in one of these:
You can encapsulate almost 10g of powder in one go with the capsule machine.

I ground up about 5 ounces of PE blob powder and they were still potent months later. I stored them in a Mason jar with a desiccant packet taped to the inside of the lid. I definitely think they lost SOME potency based on empirical evidence, but they still got us FUCKED up. To be fair, I forgot the scale and tried eyeballing Lemon Tek with PE blob powder for 7 people. Forgot the fucking scale.
Anyway, the biggest airtight containers I've found are the large jars with the rubber rings on them. They're like $17 though. I can only get like 2.5oz in a regular mason jar at the very best and storing them sucks. I never have that many shrooms on hand anyway, I just want one big jar. I heard airtight cereal boxes are good?
And I usually do a single quart Ziploc for an ounce, toss a few of those into a freezer Zip and double that. But the air comes back because they're porous.

Do you dry your mushrooms with a dehydrator? I have never had a problem keeping them in ziplocks, up to a year or so.
For long term storage I suppose vacuum bags would be the best

I dehydrate with a food dehydrator then vacuum seal with my food storage sealer. Then ALL of your jars are available. I also own a capsule machine and coffee grinder. Works fine don't know who says it doesn't.. cut slits or just be patient.
You don't have to store the mushrooms all pretty in a jar unless you're selling them... Which I personally frown upon. Until it's legal. Then I will smile upon you.

Its not a proper food grade sealer but you can get vacuum storage bags for a couple bucks, you just put a vacuum hose up to it.
Vacuum sealer can crush up your fruits which I don't really like, so I put mine in plastic bins with holes in the lid and put those in the bags, then vacuum seal. Only for large amounts

Yes, I dry mine completely with a dehydrator. They've never really taken moisture in the Ziplocs, but I routinely check on them and suck additional air out. I'm looking into something like these for larger amounts. A few of the reviews say they're not air/water tight, but the vast majority are all 5-stars. I figure I could Saran wrap the top and keep a few desiccant packs in to ensure longevity.

I really wish I had thought of that before turning all my mushrooms to little chunks. I'm bummed I didn't look for an alternative storage idea of the holes in the lid inside of a bag.

Psilocin readily oxidizes and will decompose during the drying process, but psilocybin should persist. After they are dry, just keep them in a jar with some desiccant.
OP, check this link concerning powdering: https://erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/mushrooms_info5.shtml
