Many questions: Low yields and storing jars, questions

This was right before i harvested. I didn't see a lot of pins popping up. It stayed like this for about a week. Should I have waited longer? I'm used 5 pf cakes, then the choir/verm tek for a monotub. I only got 44 dry out of it and have seen people say they get like 9 oh dry out of theirs. And i didn't have pins all over the place. could not having it in a clear tub near a window have anything to do with it. The tub looked beautiful when I fruited it... i expected a larger pinset though and a lot more for my first flush. I'm thinking do i need to use horse poop or a better sub tek? The coco and verm colonized very well and I thought it was going to give me more.
Also, i've been storing my jars in gallon plastic bags, two per bag, to cut down on contamination when I store them in a closet. This was something I did initially thinking it would be good because I wouldn't touch the jars directly to check their progress. could this be cutting down on FAE, if jars even need that? I use a two hole method and then cover with aluminum foil. Jars have been taking about two months to colonize. I thought that was a bit long. I'm not trying to rush it, just trying not to detain any progress.
Have also been thinking of making spore prints, and then making syringes, but have been told that it can up the contamination possibilities. Is it worth it? From this tub, I could see that spores were everywhere!

44 dry off 5 PF cakes?
Sounds better than ideal for what you put in.

So there's something better than PF cakes? would rye berries be better?

Tub doesn't look built properly and could have been poorly dialed in causing poor pinset. Pics of the entire tub would help diagnose.
If storing masters for a week or 2 just let sit out in the same environment They colonized in. If longer term like a month + store em in the fridge.
I would take prints regardless, if they are contaminated you at least have the option/opertunity to learn agar. If agar isn't something your wanting to learn then make some syringes and try a test jar to see how it goes so you don't waist time going balls out with bad inoculant

Hell yeah.
Actually penningtons WBS is on clearance at Walmart 7 bucks for 20 pounds.
Use that. Buy a pressure cooker. Stop wasting time with science fair project low yield PF Tek.

I use a pressure cooker. one hour at 15 psi. I haven't lost a lot of jars. 90 % have been successful without contamination. I store them in bags in a closet at about 70 degrees. They colonize well, it just takes them a lot of time.

This is the tub when I brought it into fruiting I think. Four holes, one on each side with polyfil stuffed in the holes. Turned on an incandescent light overhead in a closet for 12 hours a day, then left it in total darkness for another 12.

I plan on learning to make prints, my own syringes and agar, esp. if this will boost my yields.
I didn't think the matter in the jars really mattered as long as they were colonized well honestly.

Yes, grain will certainly give you better results.
Also your tub design could be improved. You should have two holes on each long side near substrate level with polyfill stuffed tight, then one hole on each short side near the top with poly stuffed loosely.
Hopefully you printed some of those fruits. Get some agar, dishes, grains and go to work. Follow the tried and true tub design I explained above, and you'll have vastly better results.

Okay then I'm going grain or birdseed. What about monotub substrate? Is the coco and verm good enough or do I need to graduate to horseshit lol? A buddy has been telling me about grain and horseshit for months and I was like who gives a fuck it's outdated info but now I guess I'm going to have to try it. Is the ratio on rye seed and distilled water 2:1?
Thanks for the tub advice. I'll make sure the next one is to spec. And if someone wants to post some good sub teks for a mono that would be cool!
