Sorry I was off topic there...yes in your case put the pin to a new dish...but sometimes you can gently dry fruits to rehydrate even years later and clone from them...this is a method used for decades.

So since I use a dehydrator I'm shit out of luck for trying this is what you're saying? This would be more for fan, desiccant, or sun drying? Have you ever personally tried with a dehydrator dried fruit?

I use slants to preserve my genetics. Far simpler and more reliable.

Why wouldn't waiting until the agar pins, then using that for your final plate before inoculation, be ideal?

just_curious said: Just looked into it. That's pretty awesome. I've never even stopped to think about since you always hear you can't pull spores from a dried shroom. Figured the same for tissue. I've got some great died specimens. Would you rehydrate first, or does the agar dish have enough moisture to bring it back to life?
I'm assuming you would do some sort of bleach water or peroxide dunk to hydrate/sanitize, and then drop on to agar.
I followed Roger Rabbits words(the whole thread not just that page. Answers almost all your questions)to to the T when I did this. I never got it clean though. My fault entirely. I'm still brand new to this.
That said I'm not undermining what Pasty said he has years of experience on me. He comments one time or another on almost every good thread I've read. I'm just answering your question.

Pinning on agar isn't a sure thing. And, even when it does happen, it takes FOREVER!! You'd probably be able to make transfers and expand a bunch of plates before that first on pins.

Definitely well over a month. You could've done like 5 legit transfers in that time.

Interesting. I just found a PP with a pin in the middle that was so overgrown it was a half inch from the wall. I didn't bother transferring the pin because I thought it sitting for so long meant it's vigor would be lost. I guess I'll transfer the next ones.

I just found 4 pins on an MS GT plate! im fucking juiced, was kinda wondering/worried about getting to a nice fruiting strain, seems nature/time took care of that, my understanding is this is a optimal way to start, yes?
