What to do with a TINY agar pin

I recently put some anastomosis mycelium to agar and the growth was crazy. Unfortunately, I forgot to make transfers and it dried up. However, it did produce a pin. Typically I would clone that pin, however this pin didn't get big enough to clone. I'm wondering if I could drop the pin onto a new agar dish. (The agar with the pin has remained unopened, therefore assumed to be clean). Or possibly dropping the pin straight into some LC with glass shards and shaken to chop it up, hoping it grows out.
What do you guys think? Is it possible to drop a pin onto agar, or to drop pin into LC?

It is possible to drop the pin to a new agar dish. I would not drop it straight into LC.

I have dropped live tissue from a clone to LC, but never a pin. Do you think rotting would be an issue with the pin on agar?

No not really that as Im sure youll get growth before rot.
But more because to make sure its clean for me

No. I did it a few days ago with a very small agar invitro pin.
The pin was really small it is hard to see it on the picture.

A pin on agar is fine to drop on another plate. You don't need to biopsy it, just put it on a fresh plate and it will revert to myc and grow out.

A pin is live tissue right?? I really wonder how long mycellia can stay alive even when dry. I have couple of month old jars that have grains left over. Some are super dry, but have a white coat that I know is mycelium. Imma save a few to see how long I can keep up with them for future experiment. The others I'm fixing to put to agar to make clean culture. I too put some pins to agar recently. Very aggressive growth.

I think it can't rot anyway because it's in vitro (sterile). Before it rots, it reverts to mycelium

Did you just flame sterilize tweezers and pluck it?

Mines a lot larger then the one pictured above in the agar. But too small to clone.

Why r u set on thinking its any different from a fruit. Your doing the same thing, with what should b less clean up if it is sterile.

Doesn't matter if it is larger. Flame the scalpel cool it by slicing the dish you want transfer to. Cut the pin and transfer it to the new dish.

I have had very little luck dropping tissue into LCs, I would definitely go with agar. You will have more chances with agar too, being able to take a few transfers off the resultant growth.

Fruits will last year's dry....a method some old heads preffered to use to store cultures or genetics rather then slants.

You mean they would dry the fruits, rehydrate them, then take tissue? Is this for real? If so, is there an issue of degraded genetics or anything?

Just looked into it. That's pretty awesome. I've never even stopped to think about since you always hear you can't pull spores from a dried shroom. Figured the same for tissue. I've got some great died specimens. Would you rehydrate first, or does the agar dish have enough moisture to bring it back to life?
I'm assuming you would do some sort of bleach water or peroxide dunk to hydrate/sanitize, and then drop on to agar.

The only time you can't use spores or tissue from a dry specimen is if you use heat to dehydrate it. Since we use heat to lock in potency most of the time it's a no go.

Chonicr what do u mean? Can u explain please. I thought dry tissue to agar then clean up was the only way.
