I did not notice a travel section in the forums, if there is one, mods please relocate this post. My wife and I recently got the kids out of the house and are planning to hit the road here soon. We are planning to gut and convert a cargo van and roam around visiting fun places and friends that we have scattered across North America. I have so many ideas and thoughts regarding this topic, I thought it would be fun to see what others here think or ideas that come to mind regarding living in a tiny home on wheels for a few years. To start us off, I'd like to introduce you to Bob Wells, this man is absolutely amazing. So kind, so caring, empathetic and generous. This is a short film he put together on the topic along with a few others from an amazing group of people who are mobile dwellers. https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=vczZ_TiAndg The southern gentleman in the Hawaiian shirt wrote an interesting book recently called "40 Years a Nomad" available on Amazon download for a buck. I'd love to hear ideas, suggestions or experiences. I followed festivals and was totally homeless as a younger man, so I know what I'm getting into, my wife, we shall see hahaha. Be well Dick

My sister and brother-in-law travel with their 5 children in a big van and pull behind trailer. He's a traveling nurse and takes a new assignment every three months, all the kids are home schooled. Its a pretty unique lifestyle. They decided they wanted to take 3-5 years and see the country. They're in Arizona right now, just started an assignment there a couple weeks ago and its certainly the right time of year to see Arizona. I'm in NE Ohio, and Arizona starts sounding pretty nice this time of year.

I used to live in NW Ohio. Shitty. Shitty. Winter. That sounds amazing, how great for those kiddos, best education they could ask for on the road like that. Hands on and real life experience. My parents were nomadic and I never lost the urge. Dick

In this economy the kids will be moved back into the van before you know it.

I've been planning on living out of a van, been couch surfing for the past few years instead, still looking to buy a van.
It fits my lifestyle, living in a van down by the river

Sounds better than living out of my rucksack, but yeah I'll be buying some land and building a shack when possible.

I've slept out of my car and my truck for days at a time, but that's about it. Never done it in urban areas, though. Always State/National land.

Yeah urban camping is for the birds, I've camped out in a large wooded park in the suburbs though
Had to camp out behind a truck stop earlier this year, not recommended lol

I lived in my vehicle as well as on the streets for about four years of my life after my divorce. I know the ups and downs, especially living on the street in cities like St. Louis :-( I squatted an old vacation cottage for a few months in the Ozark mountains, and lived in a tent near a river for quite some time as well, I also lived on 16th street mall in Denver for about six months.... so on and so forth. My biggest problem right now is getting rid of all the shit that (mostly my wife) has collected. We plan to spend colder months near Quartzite and spring and summer traveling north. We have a decent amount of savings and both have methods to earn income while traveling, so we are good right there. Thank you everyone for your input, this is my life's dream coming to fruition and I'm stoked as can be.
