This question is impossible to answer, but I have found Quentin Tarantino movies to be nice, with Pulp Fiction being a favorite, the whole movie just flows well together. I don't know of anyone that doesn't like Tarantino though. I feel kind of like a hipster douche because recently I have been trying to get into movies which are not so heavily exposed, I feel like many gems get passed over for larger pictures with more advertising.
Nice to see others enjoying Donnie Darko, such a good movie.
I really enjoyed the animation and message of Princess Mononoke, all of the Hayao Miyazaki films I have seen are great. I find animation to be very stimulating. I remember my mom renting movies from the library when I was younger, they had such a diverse collection there, and this is what first exposed me to anime when I was in first grade if memory serves me correct.
I couldn't pick 5 though, maybe 5 from each genre of film, but not an all around 5. I like many different genres, as I am sure you guys do as well.

I love Donnie Darko, it's one of my favorites if not my favorite, but if you have seen dazed and confused? The same writers made a new movie called (every body wants some) it's like a dazed and confused vibe bit a little better in my opinion, it takes place in the 80s I'm not going to say much but, it's a really good flick forsure.

Interestingly, Hayao Miyazaki's anime studio has made all its animation software open source and free, so that you can get high quality multi million dollar animation software entirely for free, legally: http://www.openculture.com/2016/03/open-source-version-of-studio-ghiblis-animation-software-is-now-ready-to-download.html

Naming five is hard because I have a lot of films that I could put in a top five
May favorite film of all-time though, and yeah I know that it's cliche considering the forum I'm on, but Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
I just think it's an incredibly unique film -- really the only of its kind because there's just nothing out there really like it
I've seen it so many times I've lost count, and for me it NEVER gets old
In fact it gets better if anything to me

It's one of my favorites from Terry Gilliam by far. Worth watching through a few times honestly. Has some pretty deep concepts concerning mythological archetypes that I like. Good twist on "deal with the devil" stories.

oh be quiet you. Drive won fucking best director at Cannes.
THE STYLE IS THE MOVIE. Its art. Your not really watching for the plot. Neon demon was just so utterly beautiful. Soundtrack, acting, lighting, cinematography.

art is subjective. Dont like it dont watch it.
Refn is a master in "show dont tell" movies are a visual medium. Very few movies these days do this. Just endless amounts of exposition. What the fuck is so wrong with symbolism? Is that not what art is? Expressing emotions through symbolism?

nope, artistic works should be able to stand on their own as works of pure aesthetics (which of course is subjective) i don't find Refn's films particularly aesthetic but i do find them interminably boring.

yea... I really disagree with that. but also confused... How could you not find The neon demon aesthetically pleasing? It makes LA look so beautiful. The shots and locations are just so perfect. The amount of colour and contrast is incredible.
But anyway... I dunno... that seems so bland. I really dont think you get art... How can you look at art and feel nothing? are you dead inside? What about songs? there art... and I dont think you can judge them on "aesthetics"
You might be a psychopath... or just dead inside :P

Good yeah I started cracking up too.
Just because I said Miss crumbs doesn't mean I didn't mean Ms. Pachoo You really are two women shroomites I always really respect. You both are sweet, kind, intelligent, caring and just awesome members of this community . I'd be a lucky man to have a woman like either of you in my life. There's other very sweet female shroomites i.e. pb ,CG(mostly),the late grate A_C,Sara and more. However y'all hold a soft spot with me I guess ^^
