Double Pasteurise?
    #23824883 - 11/12/16 04:24 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys

Having looked at RR's videos on how to pasturise your casings and poo substrate, he says that if you are not going to use it up in two days then it should go in the garden.

If I have made too much now, but can use it in a week when my grain is ready, then is it okay to keep it and pasteurise again and then use it or should RRs protocol apply strictly?

Cheers

It'll be fine. I wouldn't even re pasteurize it. For a week or so I'd fridge it till I needed it.

oh definitely repasteurize it, smell it first if it smells awful I wouldn't use it.
we pasteurize to get a window of 10-14 days where the grains can colonize the bulk.

this does not apply for pure coir/verm/gypsum subs.

I kind of have the same question, I had left over coir that got wet, I put it in the fridge wrapped up...wondering if it would be good to use within weeks or so? half of it got wet.

yeah coir+verm doesnt go bad like manure does, mold spores wont germinate on it that's one reason its such a great substrate for newbs.

just do the squeeze test first and make sure its at field capacity.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "coir got wet", but if its too wet squeeze out water/add verm, if its too dry just add some tap water.

www.mushroomvideos.com should explain field capacity pretty well if shroomery search doesnt.

I put basically the whole brick of coir in and had too much so I took out a piece for another time, it was half dry half wet..I just want to use it for another time.
