Moisture within jars....
    #2382377 - 02/27/04 10:30 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

As I've been waiting for my jars to colonize, I noticed that there is a bit of water/moisture inside the jars. I've also noticed that some of the mix seems to be sticking to the sides of the glass. Not in chunks or anything, just from when I've shaken them. I realize I probably used too much water during the substrate stage, but there isn't much I can do about it now. I have noticed after I flipped my jars upside down that some water has gotten on top of the mix and caused a little tan spot, which I think is ok. One of the jars looks to have a greyish color, maybe possibly trying to turn green, on an area that isn't colonized much yet. I'm thinking of waiting it out on that jar for a day or two, and if it looks worse, then toss it. My question is do you believe the excess water is going to spoil these jars?? I'd say they are about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way colonized. I'm just wondering what I should do. Thanks!

Make sure there is some air exchange in the jars(pftek-uncover holes) and you should be ok.

Sometimes whispy mycellium tends to look a lil gray at first cause its so think and on top of a dark background, but give it a few days and you will know.

Yeah...I figured I'd give it some time since that particular jar is the one with the most colonization. Furthermore, I have been waiting for these jars to colonize for 4 weeks, and just a few days ago took off the tin foil and flipped them upside down. I didn't have the holes taped, but did have tin foil over the lids. Also, my jars are sealed within a container (tub-in-tub incubator) so maybe they are moist inside because I didn't take the foil off earlier. I have noticed they colonized a hell of a lot quicker now that the foil is gone. Anyhow, we'll see what happens...I'll be pissed to hell if these jars go bad since I waited this long.

Im guessing its pftek....You should buy a pressure cooker and do WBS...Colonization in 7-10 total days and much easier with no measuring!

Yeah...I should look into a PC. This is my first time so I just wanted to see how this would work out. Hopefully it all goes well.
