Liberty Cap Lookalike?
    #23822685 - 11/11/16 11:17 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Still a beginner here, but I'm starting to feel more confident in identifying P. semilanceata in the field.  My friend and I went out hunting today, but only happened upon a few.  Most, I feel very sure about, but there's one in our batch that has me scratching my head.  Hopefully you folks can help identify it.

Here's the rest for comparison:

And the one we're especially curious about we've dubbed "Big Blacky"

Gills:
Very dark, not super packed.

Stem:
~5cm long, similar colour to the cap, but maybe a shade lighter.

Cap:
~1.5cm in diameter, dark brown.  Convex and slightly tapered.  Now that it's drying a little it appears more rusty in colour compared to the libs.

Spore print color:
Printing now!

Bruising:
Hard to tell.  Doesn't appear to have bruised much.

Hope you guys can tell if I've got an imposter on my hands!  Thank you!

It is a Panaeolus species.

Any chance it's an active Pan?  I don't have my hopes up, but it can't hurt to ask.

I think it is Panaeolus acuminatus, which isn't active.

The ones in the second picture are Psilocybe semilanceata and at least some of the first picture are too.

All except the one you asked about(which is also in the first picture & is Panaeolus acumintatus, or similar) are Psilocybe semilanceata.

I thought the only mushroom in question was the Panaeolus.

It's possible that I misinterpreted.
