Congressional Candidate Erin Schrode: "I Was Shot At Standing Rock."
    #23821896 - 11/11/16 04:32 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

The protesters are trying to prevent an oil pipeline from going through the land they were given by treaty. The pipeline threatens to foul the Missouri river, (the longest river in the U.S.) which is their drinking water, along with millions of others downstream.

She was shot with a rubber bullet at a totally peaceful protest while interviewing one of the Native American protesters.

Can I offer you a nice glass of water with a bunch of gasoline in it?

Ohhh -- you don't want it????
Too bad -- you didn't protest soon enough and now that's going to be your drinking supply.

You don't like that???

Sore loser.

"GRANVILLE SUMMIT, Penn.- A CBS News investigation has found that dangerous spills and leaks by the U.S. oil and gas industry are happening all the time across the country.

"Everyday there's numerous releases happening throughout just this country," said oil and gas safety expert Mike Sawyer. "Sometimes every couple of hours there's a new incident....

CBS News collected reported incidents for 2010 at wells and pipelines from three federal agencies and 23 of 33 oil and gas producing states. Not counting the BP disaster, we found at least 6,500 spills, leaks, fires or explosions nationwide - that's 18 a day. Overall, at least 34 million gallons of crude oil and other potentially toxic chemicals were spilled. That's triple the size of the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill.

While exactly how much was cleaned up isn't known - the impact certainly is - poisoned drinking water. Dead wildlife, destroyed land, illness, injury, and people being forced from their homes."

Fracking Study Finds Toxins in Wyoming Town's Groundwater and Raises Broader Concerns
March 29, 2016

Study also finds companies fracked into underground sources of water and at much shallower depths than previously known, close to drinking water wells.

"Hydraulic fracturing and other oil and gas operations contaminated the groundwater in Pavillion, Wyoming, according to a new study by Stanford University scientists. The findings raise concerns about possible water pollution in other heavily fracked and geologically similar communities in the U.S. West.

Pavillion has long been a flashpoint in the national debate over the potential impact of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, on drinking water. Town residents began complaining of tainted drinking water in the 1990s, as oil and gas development boomed in the area. The Environmental Protection Agency released a draft study in 2011 indicating that oil and gas activities contaminated the town's water. But after blistering criticism from industry and Wyoming politicians, the EPA shut down its probe in 2013 and turned over sampling to state regulators. The state's studies have so far found no proof of contamination.

Published in Environmental Science & Technology, the Stanford study identified chemicals in Pavillion's water related to substances that companies reported using in local fracking operations and acid stimulation, an oil and gas production method. The researchers also found that energy companies frequently fracked at much shallower depths than previously thought, sometimes very close to drinking water wells. In addition, companies fracked into underground sources of drinking water, or USDWs, defined under federal law as aquifers that could supply a public water system. Fracking into USDWs is legal, but the oil and gas industry has long insisted that fracking occurs far deeper than where aquifers are located.

Also - Sorry, for the double post but...

The Dakota Access Pipeline was originally supposed to go near Bismark, but the rerouted is because the city officials were concerned about it affecting THEIR water supply.

Now it has been re-routed through treaty land.

This is BIGLY not OK.

Quote:

FORT LARAMIE TREATY OF APRIL 29, 1868

The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) violates Article 2 of the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty which guarantees that the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe shall enjoy the “undisturbed use and occupation” of our permanent homeland, the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. The U.S. Constitution states that treaties are the supreme law of the land.

you're being fed a line of bullshit and you're eating it up, the pipeline does not
go on any indian land, it's all going through private property or public lands and
to date, pipelines have been the safest means of transporting oil even with dickhead
eco-terrorists doing all they could to crack them open

If the pipeline is so safe, then why don't they just send it through the original route, past Bismarck?
