Stem butt timing?

After 3 days, my first attempt at a wavy cap stem butt culture (growing between layers of damp cardboard) seems to be off to a good start:

What next? How long should I wait before mixing in some wood chips? Alternatively, I feel like I have virtually zero chance of keeping this going all winter, so perhaps it's better to get this straight out into a new outdoor location before the frosts hit?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Give it about ten days then add some chips....let it get a foothold n u can put it outside...cyan myc can freeze no problem.

A couple more questions please:
1) I could sterilise the wood chips or not - which is the better approach?
2) I could lift the layers of cardboard, put the wood chips in between the layers and press it back down again; or I could mix them all up, perhaps in a blender, sacrificing the cardboard layers. Which is the better approach?
Thanks

Just place woodchips inside. Blender would damage the mycelium. They don't take very well straight to woodchips after blending. If you wanted to blend it should have been before placing in cardboard.
No need to sterilize since you're already going the non-sterile method. Soak the chips for 24 hours and drain well. Too much moisture will invite mold. I learned the hard way.

Thanks but let me double check. I've brought in some chips from the location I intend to plant to, but there's a certain amount of mycelium already growing on it. If I mix this is then I'll be pitching my cyan myc against mycellium of an unknown species, won't I? In this case is it better to sterilise?
