My sweet potato grew a forest
    #23819495 - 11/10/16 11:49 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

That's not a euphemism for my hairy vagina or anything, I left it alone for a few weeks and it literally grew a forest...

Can I plant this? Will it turn into a tree or something if I plant it?

A bit late here to grow potatoes.

Side note there is a website that claims to sell true potato seeds.

If you are somewhere warm you can grow them easily. They like deep rich well worked soil. They grow a vine that likes to go all over. Not very frost tolerant though.

So... bury it underneath the soil? Completely under the soil? Is it better for it to stay in the shade or underneath the sun?

What happens when they fully grow? Does it turn into a plant or a tree? Do they grow more sweet potatoes? How long does it take?

So many questions.

They are in the same genus as morning glories and look very similar from the pictures I've seen. I had one sprout this summer and tried planting it in a planter outside, but unfortunately raccoons or something dug it up.

Iirc you can cut it up into multiple pieces, wait for them to callous / dry and then plant them an inch beneath he soil, they will grow into new sweet potatoes. Won't grow into a tree. You're such a plant noob, crystal G

Is it better to cut them up or plant it whole? Will each piece make a new potato?

Each piece yeah, I think they have to be big enough. But im pretty sure at each "eye" or brown spot, it'll put out a "shoot" (stem with leaf). I'd cut that tip with the vegetation off and let the open wound dry before planting.

Like stick it half way in the soil, the starch potato part will eventually go away, and the plantlet will grow new potatoes.

each eye on the potato can potentially become 1 plant. so cut it up accordingly.

It's a potato, don't worry about it too much and don't forget about it and it'll be just fine. Don't baby these things too much or the above ground will flourish and not enough energy put into preservation underground. When your close to harvest time, kill the plant and leave the potatoes the ground for another week or so and don't water it. This will ensure a good skin so it can store well.
