Trich riding on multiple transfers possible?
    #23818063 - 11/10/16 12:30 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Ok so ive tossed a few of my mazzie #3 clones some jars get mold others dont i have several plates of the same but different strains ... what i really wanna know is being that trich basically entwines itself to the myc can it just keep being transferred without showing itself in the agar? Id say im 15+ transfers on all the plates... im going back to square one and transferring the "transparent" myc before it really gets going to make sure its clean but i dont wanna keep wasting time on something thats not worth it

Have you tried an agar sandwitch?

Yes even more species other than trich can ride and hide in your myc.

Theres some thread out there showing bacterial growth in petris

But if your really having problems Ive read this was good

When you pour more agar onto a existing plate and only myc will grow through it.

Show some pics of plates. Trich and myc are very different and should be distinguished fairly easily

I don't see any contaminant riding very far down the line, if you are truly doing your due diligence with being clean.  It can ride, but you're only going to have problems if your contamination is consistently sporulating and blasting spores all over your plates, and you are transferring that.

As long as you transfer clean growth a couple times, it really should be fine.  Even when mold is clearly sporulating in the dish, you can transfer away successfully as long as you don't knock around the plate too much.

Alright they are pasty plates ill take some in a few.. but thats what im asking is it possible for the trich to be like a ninja just keep being transferred without sporulating or being noticed?? I can tell between myc and trich mold i just dont get why some mazzies are molding up and others are not... ya thats what i figured i nean i know its a noob question but like i said i just cant figure out how its getting in ive never had mold issues this bad since i built my hood ... im going to get sfds and try to see if that helps

My honest opinion is no, noob.  Find a clean sector, and try your best to get it away from the contam unhindered and into another plate.  It should be fine, and if it isn't, it might be better than the situation it's in now.  Just transfer it again.  As long as the situation in the culture keeps improving as you transfer, that's all you can ask for.

The moment it keeps not improving, trash the culture and start over. Figure out what you're doing wrong and fix it.  Then try.

Trich is very easy to take along its a parasite of cubensis and feeds of the cube mycelium. So it's not growing alongside the cubensis it's growing on the cubensis.

Hence why it gets in spawn so easy. Hence why people think their spawn is clean but get trich before the first flush.

Thats what i mean .. if taking the myc while its still not fully grown or a sandwich or something is it still possble if it was a bad infestation ? I mean i guess with out a microscope its impossible to answer really

Sometimes you just have to get clean mycelium rather than try to clean it up. If it's trich imbedded then you might be fighting a battle that isn't worth it at all.

How do you scope it without compromising the sterility of your plates. You can do it after the fact. You could try to do a small grow or get plate pins. Then clone to get clean mycelium again

After i transfer i could scope it on the old plate if its crawling with shit then i know which is bad ... but these are already clones if i took a pin wouldnt that be a clone of a clone?

Why don't you just start back from spore? All new growth. Slant that myc before you fruit it then clone it and slant it again.
