confusion about misting and evaporation

I was reading on a post that when it comes to misting you should only mist the surface of the substrate when its dry to get it glistening and to avoid misting the walls because it messes with the evaporation process. How then would you tell if your polyfill is dialed in correctly? Initially the walls of the monotub are glistening from condensation from the heat produced during colonization. Would you just put the polyfill in and use the evaporation rings initially to dial it in then leave the walls alone for the rest of the time?

i wouldnt say that... it doesn't hurt to spray the walls, but it also doesn't help. so just don't do it.

I don't think any of this matters all that much. I doubt that misting the walls or not misting the walls makes any difference.
I don't personally use polyfill in my tubs so I can't comment on that. If the substrate is dry, I mist it. If it's wet, I fan it. I think this strategy can work for anyone, with any tub strategy. I just adjust some tape over the tub's holes as needed if I feel like it's saying too wet or getting too dry.

It's not that misting the walls is a problem. It's that people are misting the walls instead of the substrate. That is retarded. If the walls in a mono are dry and you want to judge how good the FAE is then give em a spritz. But to mist just the walls while avoiding the substrate is retarded.

This...
I think that misting the walls of the tub is a great way to gauge your FAE if your walls are dry before you can dial-in.
This is most profound when you have 20 tubs in 5 sets of stacks that are 4 high in different areas around your grow room...
Every tub is in a different spot...every tub has its own thing going on...
EVERY tub needs different levels of air restriction in order to perform its best in that type of environment.

That's exactly what i'm dealing with, i try to rotate and rearrange my tubs as i check through them so they get even lighting and air flow. I find its easier to give a consistent amount of polyfill in each tub and rearrange them frequently rather than to worry about tweaking the polyfill too much. I think its a good idea to mist the sides when your initially tweaking the polyfill then not worry about it once its dialed in.
