Hey guys.
Today has been exhausting. I literally just got over being sick last week and now I'm sick again. My boss actually told me to fuck off early today because I looked like I was gonna pass out round 3. Between that and the miserably rainy day we've had here, the mulled wine I'm drinking is hitting the spot.
Now that it's getting colder and on nights like tonight I have a much harder time ignoring folks on the street(which is honestly an essential skill to not go broke, where I live), I never carry cash but I do buy hot meals, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good cheap 'stay warm' options to me? To buy a bit of and hand out. I've already gotten the handwarmers and I got some socks that are supposed to be for cold weather but they were a bit expensive at the CVS I went to. I know there's lots of folks on here who've camped so I was just wondering if someone could recommend me some tips or resources? Maybe it's ultimately selfish because it just makes my heart hurt a bit less passing someone shivering - but I don't mind being that kind of selfish.
Also, how's everyone?

Hey,
So one of these threads had me on some video showing pissed off voters, and that soon led another video...and then another. Then this really long one...
I've actually almost watched the entire thing through. I got to 50:00 and started dying.

Is that a tub game where you pretend you're in pool?
I used to play pool all the time, tho - used to have a table in the basement.

Yeah I had a fucking terrible cold myself for like a solid week.
Honestly thought everyone at work was just catching the bug I already got a couple weeks back - but now I'm sick again so probably not.
Felt like I got hit by a train within a couple of a hours last night and have had a nice lil low grade fever. I got my flu vaccine this year but I'm not sure why because in the past I've gotten it despite getting the shot before.

i can help
Go to an outdoor store, like Sportsman or Cabelas. Not sure u have those in your area. Or a ski shop, that sells snowboards/skis.
They have great warm clothing.
BUT its kinda spendy so shop around. Its worth the money if u get the name brand stuff, it really does keep u warm in winter.
Also there are these air-activated packets u can buy at almost any store called "Hot Hands". They really work and are almost too hot.
Good luck. Sorry about your sickness, i was sick too just a week ago. It sucks working when you are sick thats for dang sure.

Todays been weird, my network is in shambles right now and it seems like I know less people every day. I'm pretty extroverted and planning on moving in the relatively near future, so its not a big deal, but I've had some moments of nostalgic melancholy.
Anyways, everything is progressing in the right direction

Thankyou!
There's a cabellas like 2 we hours north west(?) of here that I know of.
Such a cool store. Too expensive for me though. I was thinking more like some waterproof blankets - do you think handing out space blankets would be too much?
And yeah I got a bunch of hot hands for the guy I saw tonight who I sincerely hope isn't gonna die of hypothermia. There are a lot of homeless here and a good portion of chronically homeless folks are completely fucking insane and I understand why someone might not want to go to a shelter..but it's just so cold any rainy. I really hope I'm never in that position my self.

ohhhh, i thought this was for you. u are giving it to homeless. Ok.
hmmmmm....thift stores
Most thift stores have heavy clothing and thick wool blankets. Not up to fasion date but who cares its cold outside!
Also, some Churches either sell cheap clothes or give them away to people in need.

Oh that's a great idea!!
I've gotta find some actual cheap thrift stores near me. I've got one literally right next door to my apartment but it's more of a consignment shop with lots of awesome 99cent obscure scifi books. The only Good Will near me was like a mile away and it collapsed recently and killed like 6 people so... yeah.
Actually finding some good ideas on pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/explore/homeless-care-package/

If you go to a thrift store, ask if you can talk to the manager and see if they'll give you a discount for everything you buy given the circumstances.

If u live in a city, ther should be ton of little thift shops around.
If u know how to sew, u could make some parkas from wool or something

I'm steps from AWESOME thrift stores and consignment shops, but they tend to have some higher prices than your average good will - at the moment I'm posted up in a high rent neighborhood so most of the stores by me are just way more expensive than I can afford for stuff like that.
And yup. It was a Salvation Army, but yup.

I do know how to sew! I've gotta get my sewing machine back from my parents...I gave up my car for the time, and lugging my machine back on a greyhound bus seems....exhausting. But I've got friends with cars and numerous other areas of the city that are much cheaper so I'm gonna take a look!
There was some really nice merino blankets for 20 bucks in CVS, I was tempted to get it but it's been pouring here and I already spent almost 30 bucks on this guy and I just can't afford to do that for everyone I run into who's cold this winter.

You could visit a red cross and ask for some blankets to give to the homeless. They usually have blankets, cheap hoodies and socks on stock at their locations. I wouldn't get too hung up on blowing a fortune on the endeavor, you could probably do quite a bit cheaply. The resources are probably out there, and people are usually willing to donate their own stuff to this kind of stuff as well as long as there is a person organizing.

That's pretty cool!
I should really just volunteer where I can - there's a lot of orgs here who can help people much more so than I alone can. I'm not volunteering with anyone right now and I should be.
I honestly just cannot walk past someone sitting on the side walk shivering in the pouring rain and not try to help when I've got money in my account that I'll just spend on something stupid. Call it shame or self-aggrandizement - I can ignore A LOT of shit on these streets, but that's one thing that just tugs.

Mulled wine is spiced wine correct?
Once I am off the hook, and free to brew alcohol, well that's what I am going to do, is brew some goshdarn alcohol, and I want to try something spiced first.
It's a great feeling to drink your own alcohol, I have only brewed ghetto wine a handful of times in the past with yeast, sugar, and frozen grape juice in a jug, shit worked well though.
