We've done it before. The 12th amendment was entirely about fixing problems with the electoral college

and that has been fixed so it stands to reason that by the 12th amendment, Trump has
been elected to the presidency and hillary and lost

The political environment of 1804 was vastly different than today's.. Now'a'days you have the rural states, approx 3/4ths of the states voting as a single bloc - so you think you're going to get 3/4ths of the states to give up their power?

The problem is that it isn't one person - one vote.

If you're in California, your vote counts as about 4/5 of a person.

If you're in New York, your vote counts as about 9/10 of a person.

If you're in North Dakota, your vote counts as 2.64 people.

Except... no.

We vote for President by state, not nationally.

If you're in California, your vote counts as 1 person, just like every Californian.

If you're in New York, your vote counts as 1 person, just like every New Yorker.

If you're in North Dakota, your vote counts 1 person, just like every North Dakotan..

This isn't rocket scienece and those who can't grasp this simple concept should be embarrassed mortified.

We vote by state in the hope that the one your state votes for will be the next President. Just like you vote for the Representatives and Senators for your state.

And she still lost the election:lol:

Honestly, I'd be fine going to a strait popular vote, if Trump would have actulky campaigned in New York and California, he still wouldn't have won the whole state, but I'm sure he wouldn't have lost as badly in them.

***its all irrelevant though because he didn't need to win them, and he campaigned accordingly, and won the election

No they get it perfectly. They like the electoral college because there are too many liberals in the country for them to win an election based on popular vote. They need a system where liberal votes are discounted and conservative votes are given more weight. It's affirmative action for conservative voters.

The republican candidate won only one out of the five elections this century based on popular vote, but because of the electoral college they have won three out of five presidential terms. It fucking bullshit. It's the literal definition of a rigged system, and they love it because it's really the only way they can win.

The democratic congressman from Ohio that just challenged Pelosi for the minor speaker has said the party has lost touch with middle America. It's become a party of the coasts that largely focusses on problems of the elite and poverty social classes while completely alienating the blue collar and trade workers. Bernie Sanders largely has been saying that since the primaries (granted his actions are different than what he preaches). Many other democrats recognize this.

Taking the debate of whether or not the electoral college is good or bad, if it was really this one dimensional as you claim, why have the democrats lost more congressional and senate since Obama has been in office? Why are there only 5 states where the democrats have a governor and the state legislature?

It's the same principle though. In the primaries she had the popular vote and Obama won the delegates.

But you didn't hear of feminists commiting suicide over this.

yeah but honestly before 2015/2016 most people probably didn't even know what the primaries were

The only good thing about this new election is it actually has people paying attention and learning about the system we have put in place.

The democrat got almost 3 million more votes than the republican. If the democrats have lost touch, then what about the republicans?

The democrats gained seats in the senate and house in 2016. The house has been lost to the democrats due to gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is also a huge factor in state legislatures. Hopefully the Supreme Court will rule it unconstitutional. The Republican Party cheats. That's how they maintain power. You can't ignore the fact that Hillary Clinton received more votes then any republican presidential candidate ever. These self righteous conservatives  can fuck off lecturing liberals about losing touch with anyone when their candidate lost the popular vote by 3 million votes. The electoral college may make trump president, but his message was rejected by a majority and a plurality of the voters.

In the case of running against Trump it should've been 10-15 million votes. That it was even close whatsoever really validates the 'out of touch' aspect - how casual and sure of themselves going into the election validates how 'out of touch' they were - She failed  when it came to garnering trust and campaigning in states that traditionally voted blue that were heavily Bernie supporters in the primary.. i.e. Wisconsin, Michigan... THAT is what is meant by out of touch. They had no clue they were about to get creamed in states they thought they had in the bag easily... because they still refuse to believe that they lost a shit ton of support by their heinous acts in the primary. And I know you're one of those deniers. But to this day I still see 20-50x Bernie stickers than H-> stickers in my town

The cost of being in a Union instead of a Province. You have to give something to smaller States that can be significant enough for them to join your Union. Electoral power will do it. Otherwise they would say no to the Union.

As for your Gerrymandering claim; Hillary had the Democrats on her side, the media on her side, the Republicans on her side, the pollsters on her side, most world leaders on her side, she forced Sanders out, she had Wall Street support, she had celebrity support, she had events made in her name for donations, she was given foreign money and she spent by far the most money on everything.

...and she lost to the absolutely worst Republican candidate that ever existed.

The Republicans didn't cheat or gerrymander. They got lucky because of Trump.

The Democrats were just THAT bad...
