So you believe that the house should decide this election. If you had your way, that is what you think would be best?

No pretzeling. If the people don't have a clear consensus of who the winner is, Somebody somewhaere HAS to make the decision because the nation can't go on without a President and there is nobody in better position to make a decision for the people than those who were elected by the people.

Or you could put the names of the candiate on a peg wheel and have a monkey spin it...

Should members of the house who didn't win with a majority be excluded from this process since there was no consensus on their own election.

I follow Canadian politics and I know very few members of parliament win with a majority of the vote. Are they all illegitimate?

Your pretzel logic is really stupid

there is plenty of room to criticise the electoral college...though it allows for people in smaller more rural cities/townships to be heard, which is a matter of principal...should those in bigger cities have more of a say, than in rural areas that might not get as much word out to/from them about the candidates....this is the main contention....that the popular vote doesn't make as strong of an effect in those rural areas.

but that doesn't mean there isn't problems with the electoral college, -- though these problems do not necessarily arise by default. hence why it's perfectly legitimate to DISCUSS the fucking objective criticisms of the electoral college, whether it annoys one, or hurts one's head, or not.

In a situation where nobody reaches 270, then yes. Unless of course you want to go Canadian style and elect the one with the most votes even though he only has like 35% support of the general population, which is what you've been bitching about from the get go. A system which Canadian are trying to move away from because it creates the same situation like you have in the US right now. Winning without having 50%+1...

So yeah, the house should decide.

The best way is what France does. 5 candiates. The top 2 wins, then there's a second vote to pick who of the 2 wins. Two turn voting system.

Sounds good to me. I have no problem with run off elections. But in the end, it is the most popular person who wins. Unlike the United States presidential election.

Your point stands 100%. But you can't go 4 years withotu a President because people can't agree on who it should be. Someone has to decide. The house is the least worst place to make the decision. That's all I'm saying.

That's the philsophy of the electoral college, but in practice it is a total failure. States like Montana and Wyoming haven't seen a presidential candidate in the last half century.

pragmatic for Trump though. which is why everyone just loves loves loves it right now, and no discussion can be had without berating one another about our opinions.

Yes and no.

Those who love the guy that got eliminated in the first round of voting is stuck with choosing who he thinks is the lesser evil in the second round.

But that's Democracy. No matter the system, people always choose who they think is the lesser evil.

some would say democracy has always been dysfunctional, at the very least...meaning that there is room for criticism.

Louisiana does this, BTW. They have forgone the entire primary system for down ballot candiaites and everyone goes on the general election ballot, and then they have a runoff of the top two candidates if nobody gets 50%

I don't know how easy that is to do in the rest of the country. Louisiana has a different legal system than the other 49 states.

Does it bother you to be constantly reminded that trump lost the vote? Do you need a safe space!

Well there you go. It still pisses off those who's candidates lost in the first round though.

See if somebody is very popular, he'll win the vote, the college, the first round, whatever you want.

When shit starts getting tight, it's next to impossible to find a legitimate way of electiing someone because there's always going to be a situation where most people disagree and think it isn't fair because it's never really fair... It's part of the reason where some country prefer dictators. There's no argument.

Imagine a situation where;

1st place has 34%,
2nd place 33% and
3rd place 33%

Good luck dealing with that fuck up.

That's fine. Have a run off or give it to the person with the most votes. But, it's plainly absurd to give it the person who got the second most votes.
