identification help
    #23816541 - 11/09/16 03:10 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,

I'm getting into wild mushroom harvesting and as you can probably imagine I'm not all that comfortable with my identification skills yet. I'm in the northwest (Bellingham) and so far I've successfully identified and eaten fairy ring mushrooms and that's about it. I just found some mushrooms in a park down the street and was wondering if I could get some help on identification.

I spent some time trying to identify these and here's what I got.

This first ones have purple tops with a dimple that is a bit slimy (although it was raining just a while ago). The gills and stalk are fairly white and it don't stain when bruised. I didn't notice any milk coming out of a cut in the gills. They are growing under birch trees. I thought they might be shrimp mushrooms but none of the stalks have any blush to them

Next, there was a huge mushroom that smelled like a portabella. Next to it was a smaller version. The stalk of the big one is huge and misshapen, although that could have occurred when they mowed the grass at some point I suppose. The smaller version is in the bottom pic- I messed up making the images.

Are these queen bolets? Kind of old on the outside but look fine on the inside. Note that the little mushroom in the pic goes with the big one above.

I apologize in advance for not explicitly following the identification post rules, saw them after the fact. I'll be more stringent next time, thanks!

1 is a russula.  2 i don't  know but it's very old. The baby looks like an agaricus of some kind.

1. Russula species, probably xerampelina, what does it smell like?
2. Agaricus species, way beyond the pale, and past the point of being able to make a positive ID, without more work than reasonable.
3. Two separate species
  3(left): Leccinum species
3(right): Agaricus species, probably A. augustus or A. perobscurus. Do you live in the Bay Area?
