How many Quart jars would you expand this to?
    #23816256 - 11/09/16 01:34 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I have 3 of these Pint jars. They are this far along after about 10 days and a shake at 30%. It is MS but it came from Hawkeye. I put some spores to agar and have had VERY LITTLE contam. I want to expand to quart jars of grain. How many quart jars would you do from each of these pint jars?

So did you inject spores into this jar?

Yes. I had done MS tubs in past with success. and read about many people pulling off transfers to grain and then bulk from MS. I am willing to try it. Either it works or it don't. I got other projects going so this will not be all my eggs in on basket. As far as bacteria well we can never get our jars 100% with a PC so there will always be bacteria. Spore solution is NEVER going to be clean, but this solution has been very clean when tested on agar.

If you tested it on agar you should have just grown the jar with an agar wedge. I have to recommend you do this instead for your bulk grow.

With that being said, one jar can inoculate 10 jars the same size.

The agar was done just a few days before these jars. I am cleaning up on agar for mono tubs. I just have 3 nice jars and am willing to try it out. My goal was 4-6 quarts off each pint. Probably 4. I have a dozen new quarts here and that will work out math wise. Also as we know the more grain I start with the faster it will colonize the quarts. Then I will have to decide.

-do I put all 12 quarts in a mono and just case and fruit

OR

-do I risk a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio of spawn to straw and try to double or triple up. I cant make this decision until I have the quarts colonized and can see just how fast they grew and how clean they appear.
