I only need liability. Hail coverage would be nice too though. Trying to keep it under $100 for my 99 Ford Ranger. Geico quoted me about $130. Any recommendations?

I have Progressive and its liability only (with road assisstance).
Its at $75. Used to be $86 but i used theire cool hi-tech Snapshot device that u plug in your car (and it records your driving habits) and got a deduction.
They are definitely legit, i recommend them.

This sucks cuz I pay like 265 a month for a 99 jeep and I'm 23. My driving record isn't that bad either, maybe like 1 minor accident if anyone cares about it.
Just for liability...

That's crazy; you need to shop around. Maybe it has to do with your location. When i first started driving i was paying $269/mo to aig for liability on a '74 super bug because i did'nt know any better. After a year or so i shopped around and dropped that by over $100 switching to state farm.
I have no experience with safeauto, but looking into them is worth a shot Acaterpillar. If all you want is liability, then go for the cheapest option. It's when you want full coverage that the company matters and it's beneficial to look into a regional branch's reputation and such.
I currently pay $186/mo to state farm for two Jaguars and a Toyota along with renter's ins, with full on one Jag and liability on the other two. Not the best deal but i've had pretty good experience with them.

The General strikes me as super duper ghetto for sure.
I use allstate - Geico dropped me when I was on my parent's policy over a minor accident when I was 18(but I got caught doing like 114 in a 55 when I was 17, which suspended my license). I suspect that was the culprit. Allstate has been good to me and cheaper than geico since then.
Sacrilegious because my brother is slowly climbing his way to upper level management over at Geico, but eh $$ is $$.

I pay $600 a year for maximum coverage. Zero accidents. But I used to pay almost $200 a month for the same coverage cause I have over a dozen 100+mph tickets. Took 5 years without getting a ticket and me getting older to get good rates. Total bullshit that unmarried males have to pay more. We all know men are better drivers.

lol I mean I'm not gonna take that bait *eyetwitch*. Mainly because I don't have the time or energy to refute such a ridiculous claim that we can at this point adequately quantify the nitty gritty details of difference between the male and female brain and quantify that data into some objective ruling that can clearly say one is better than the other in terms of driving.
All I know is that for insurance companies that the dollar speaks and when it comes down to that it comes down to stats.
regardless, yeah I've gotta re-evalutate my current rate - I pay a little over 100 a month, which isn't terrible, but I hope it'll get better once I turn 25 at least.

Ride a bike instead. I pay about £250 to insure a bike that's faster than most Ferrari's.
Mind you, at $100-130 for a 99 vehicle, I wouldn't even bother looking for cheaper. That's a fucking bargain. My 98 Honda Legend is over twice that.

I've actually been thinking of getting a moped/scooter/vespa! I need a regular bike to begin with. Cycling is huge in my city, I had a bike years ago but it got stolen . It's just for getting out of the city and to the far corners, as of now.
I definitely don't need a super fast moped to get around though traffic doesn't move much faster than 25 mph. Trying to figure out what to do with the giant SUV I drive around whenever I leave the city though..it is certainly convenient to have on many of the trips I take to the mountains.Quote:

I speed too, but it only took one speeding ticket to learn how not to get caught again. I haven't had an accident in the 5 out of 7 years I've been driving so I'll have to get back to you on that. I also have kept and eluded the philadelphia parking authority with a big ass three row SUV in some of it's busiest areas which I would love to challenge anyone to do.
and yes I can drive stic-

$44 per month for my 2000 Toyota Echo.
Liability only though, the thing isn't really worth putting full coverage on as it's blue book value is probably in the sub $3000 range. Gets good gas though and has zero issues. I really wish I could warrant getting a new car, but this one is just so reliable and cheap to maintain I've never had a reason to.

You really should. Cheap, convenient, no traffic delays, easy to park, AND it'll make you a way better car driver. Plus., it's a thrill feeling the wind on you on a good sunny day, powerful feeling of freedom.
The only downside is layering up in cold and/or rain. And the fact they're easier to steal than cars.

cycling around here made me a better car driver in and of itself, for sure. I can definitely see where a motorcycle(which I'm too worried about turning into a death machine so it'll be a scooter for me) would too.
Never have I fully realized the lack of self awareness of people before
But yeah, as of now I live in a super busy section of the city - people with mopeds can park on the sidewalk at least they do here at their houses/buildings. I definitely would have to do some more research - idk that I'd feel fully comfortable on one unless I found an instructor because I've never been on a moped and this seems like a bad area to try it out

A single day course should do the trick, a CBT here. They're piss easy to ride - no gears. And if you know how to be careful on a pushbike, you already know the most important lesson in riding - beware of inattentive morons in cars!!
Shout me if you start looking seriously at models and have a budget in mind. Definitely spend money on a good helmet, gloves, and boots. Most important bits, I learned that the hard way. And if you ever go over 50mph, a jacket and jeans with armour.

What Duc you have? I got chased once doing 170ish on my CBR1000RR in a 50/70. It was the middle of the night and I said all the right things. He let me go with a slap on the wrist and then pulled out his phone to show me pics of his CBR1000RR.
Coming from fast cars and getting loads of points (even losing my license for a time), I'm amazed at what I've got away with on bikes. Not a single point in 9 years.

FWIW I pay State Farm about 120 a month for full coverage on a pretty new truck.
I did a geico quite and liability+uninsured motorists was about that much for me. Paying 130 for liability on a 99 truck is insanely unreasonable IMO.
I suggest calling a State Farm agent and seeing what they can quote you, then doing the same with progressive and all the big fish.
130 for liability only is a scam...plus if someone uninsured hits you you are screwed without uninsured motorist on top of it. If nobody can make your 100 dollar cutoff, id say fuck it and look for full coverage cuz i imagine you can find it for the same ballpark.

I live in long island ny. One of the reasons why insurance sucks. I went to some agency which looked around for I believe the cheapest insurance rates for me nationally and put me on CWICO. Atleast that's what I think they did. My dad pointed me to them. This is with my own insurance policy.
My other car, 2014 v6 mustang, is under my dads policy, but I'm the primary driver and it came out to about 900$ every 6 months so what gives? Insurance companies have a thing against jeeps, brah?

it's not that crazy. yeah, its expensive but its right in line with a 23 year old that has an at fault accident. the only carrier i know of that is competitive in that market is Gieco. they might be able to save him some money. otherwise, carriers purposely rate higher on risk such as these.

Call a local agency who can quote you with multiple carriers or go direct. if you're wanting to be protected from hail, you need comprehensive coverage not just liability. Also, don't skimp on liability limits. State minimum is NOT enough in most cases.

All companies have different formulas for coming up with the rates, so the cheapest place for you might not be the same for someone else.
Just make sure your liability isn't the minimum. 10/20/10 means if you hit a $50,000 car then you can be sued for what your coverage doesn't take care of ($40,000).
They can garnish your wages etc. so just make sure you use your insurance for its purpose, covering your ass.

Don't forget that where you live plays a big roll in auto premiums. If you live in a big city, you are already going to have higher premiums than someone who has the same coverage but lives in a small city or town.
There are too many factors involved to compare your premium to someone else's. I sell insurance and have to explain this to people very often.

I'd say that depends on your state. I don't think you need to have actual residency in that state to get insurance. I just wrote a policy on an newly retired couple who decided, out of the blue, to move to my state and live here so I know that they dont have residency in this state and our carriers had no problems. A lot of carriers don't even ask that question from what I've seen. They just want to know a prior address if you have lived somewhere for less than 3 years.
"Oh you want to insure your home? New purchase? Ok, no prob whats your prior address". They'll also ask if its a primary or secondary home.
As for the auto portion, I never see that question asked either. At most, again they'll ask if you lived somewhere less than 3 years or if you rent/own.
If you're trying to insure a vehicle in a particular state in will need to be registered in that state though.
Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer your question but hopefully it helps.

I was asking more about city location, since it seems like rural cities pay less. I'm planing on moving to a smaller city located between Fort Worth and Dallas and was curious what it would take to get the lower rate.

Oh okay.
You don't need residency to purchase insurance somewhere. You will have to wait and see what the rates are. You could always call ahead to an agency in that area and get a quote or quote yourself within a direct carriers website and just put the address you are planning on moving to. That might help with comparing premiums. Just don't forget to register your vehicle in that state once you move.
I had a couple from rural Iowa who were paying around $350 a year for 2 vehicles, high limits, low deductibles, etc. They came here to the large city I am in and their premium went up to around $800-900 a year, simply because of location.

I pay $130/month for full coverage through state farm. I'm paying a lot less than people I know, so that must be pretty good for my area. I was paying double that amount until I turned 25. I've also used ghetto insurances in the past, but I've found that you can get a better rate through larger companies if your record is good.

If you get points from it, yes. With speeding tickets, it's best to go to court and ask the judge to not give you any points and pay your fine. If you just pay your fine, you will get points and your insurance rates will be affected.
