This year has both been the most painful, and the most growing of my life. I'll never forget it, it's turned life on its head for me, but it's got fuck all to do with what's going on out there in the world.
The tales, stories, successes, failures, celebrities, politicians, media, big corps, etc - basically anyone who I am not in direct contact with, and all the stories of what's going on out there outside of my experience - can go and get fucked as far as I'm concerned.
Brexit, Trump, inflation, recession, terrorism, etc - all that shit - I really don't understand why so many people waste the precious time we have in this world on such trivialities.
It's not like there's actually a fucking thing you can do about it, as utterly and insanely fucking backwards as this world and life is. It's fucking mental, and the only sane response I can see to it all is distancing myself as far from it as possible.
Surely I'm not the only one here that feels this way?

It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

I do my bit. I donate money to sumofus & 38degrees, and things like erowid & wiki. I sign the petitions all that I can. I share love with as many people as I can, and show friendliness wherever I go. I know people power can have an impact, I've seen it do so many a time. But if you look at the bigger picture, my words above still stand. The human species is fucked - and it's a path towards our physical and mental destruction we've been on a long time.

Thanks trex, I really appreciate your words. If anything though, I feel more content and happier than ever looking at the big picture and just accepting it for the fucked up mess it is.
Things still get me from time to time, like seeing what my beloved rave scene has become weekend before last, but acceptance brings peace, no matter how fucked up things get.
Surely you've felt times in your life where your surroundings are just not right for you, and felt the need to get away?

Oh yes, more than once or twice! I miss the true PLUR scene as well. *sigh*
You made it through though and seem to be holding up well. I don't know the details nor do you have to write it. Just keep on keeping on and muddle through. My mom used to tell me to just pick myself up with my bootstraps! LOL!
LOL, just looked up the origin of the saying, don't know why I never did until now, LOL!
Here: The origin of this descriptive phrase isn't known. It refers of course to boots and their straps (laces) and to the imagined feat of a lifting oneself off the ground by pulling on one's bootstraps. This impossible task is supposed to exemplify the achievement in getting out of a difficult situation by one's own efforts.
It was known by the early 20th century. James Joyce alluded to it in Ulysses, 1922:
"There were others who had forced their way to the top from the lowest rung by the aid of their bootstraps."
A more explicit use of the phrase comes a little later, from Kunitz & Haycraft's British Authors of the 19th Century:
"A poet who lifted himself by his own boot-straps from an obscure versifier to the ranks of real poetry."
Some early computers used a process called bootstrapping which alludes to this phrase. This involved loading a small amount of code which was then used to progressively load more complex code until the machine was ready for use. This led to the use of the term 'booting' to mean starting up a computer. An early citation of this in print comes from the Proceedings of the institute of radio engineers (IRE), 1953:
A technique sometimes called the ‘bootstrap technique’…Pushing the load button... causes one full word to be loaded into a memory address previously set up... on the operator's panel, after which the program control is directed to that memory address and the computer starts automatically.
An electrical engineer correspondent of mine says that bootstrap was used with the same meaning as above to early radio circuits, before the computer era, but I have no documentary evidence to support that assertion.
