Thankyou for actually responding and trying to discuss this with me.

Firstly, I completely agree with you.

Secondly, and this is just out of curiousity because it's an idea I ponder myself - what exactly do you think we should be teaching our kids in those crucial years?

Personally I went to a charter school which severely lacked in some areas for me, but excelled in others - I personally think we should be teaching kids, using fundamental knowledge, how exactly to learn. I think we should be teaching them real life skills, like financial literacy, I think we need to teach them more about our government and the world - but mainly teach them how they really study and retain information whether they go into college or a skilled trade. I think trades and STEM need to be taught more, for sure, my school didn't have a computer lab(it was an art school granted) but art and technology are so interwoven, and at this point the fact that our middle schoolers aren't learning to code already, IMO puts us as a nation behind.

I also, as someone who is currently going into technology in the non profit field specifically, see a huge dispersion of resources for highschoolers and young adults in terms of trade programs particularly those geared towards tech. There is a lot of fantastic stuff corporations like Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and more are doing in cities, but not in rural areas. As someone from the rust belt and very very familiar with forgotten coal mining towns that have literally just been left to their own devices and as a result have completely rotted away in the last 30 years....it really bothers me.

I want to eventually get educational resources that are available in cities and more geographically dense areas that are no where to be found in most of my state more widely dispersed so those people do have career paths that are more in line with the global market.

That's kinda aside from politics, but yeah.

Basically just give them any college level book force them to read 5-10 pages and break everything down by the end of the week for homework.
If there are any discrepancies in how well they're doing then it will be based on effort and not how many resources one group of kids has over another.
I was able to sit still in kindergarden without jumping out of my seat or yelling and screaming. But these people nowadays say that means I'm autistic, if anyone is shy or doesn't blab at the mouth then people nowadays think you're mentally retarded, because that's what people do at school. Act mentally retarded.
One portion of the class goes "but why but why" "uhhh" and then another portion has to sit there because no one told them to redo the homework everyday or copy everything down over and over to get an A+ and get moved to higher classes, if you're on the cusp they should let you take them and you should have a choice of who your teacher is. If smart kids were a minority than the colleges wouldn't be filled to the brim with fucking minorities lol

my school was pretty backwards thou
we sent all the kids that got F's to another school and they would basically show up there to smoke and hang out
the worst possible gathering

meanwhile if I wanted to take algebra I have ONE teacher to teach me

We either will or we'll die.

That's the reality of the situation.

Evolution didn't stop with humans and we're far from the end all be all of things.

this is more and more evident, we learned nothing from the 20th century except the extent of human gullibility it seems

Well, we got technology, most of which seems to give the feeling that we're more connected, whilst we're actually more distant (on a soul to soul level) from others IMO.

Plus advances in medical science, meaning we live longer but still ignore the wisdom of our elders and shove them in care homes.

And we don't seem to revel in public executions and gore quite so much.

But yeah, when it comes down to it I think you hit the nail on the head. The overriding progress of the century seems to me to be towards superficiality, mistrust, moneygrabbing and antisocial behaviour IME.

Yay progress!

Even though that's the most pointless post I've read in months, I bet someone +1's it.

You're so cool.
