My cake grow
    #23812552 - 11/08/16 12:15 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Figure I will add this as well.  The cakes are my backup plan in case (no pun intended) my grain fails.
I have noticed that I am seeing few, large fruits rather than multiple small fruits as in grows past.  Also that only a percentage of the cakes are showing signs of maturity.  They have been in about 10 days, so I am thinking perhaps I did not achieve full consolidation on a few.  My last batch stalled out, I solved that problem but they still will not fruit, they just sit there as I mist and fan.
Is it really that bad to have condensation inside my SGFC?

Just my guess but maybe to much foil covering up your perlite? I get a feeling the pros on here are going to say trim that foil. It slows down your upward air currents that a SGFC create.

Done, thank you.
I thought of that myself but put it in the back of my mind.
What, if any downside is there to not using foil?

They have to be on something. Not using anything under them will causew them to attempt to grow mycelium into perlite. This will keep them from fruiting ad they will not grow (expand myceliume) and fruit at the same time. May in nature but it doesn't work so well indoors.

That does look better. The big one needs spore printed for sure, and cloned if possible. You should spore print several of those big ones. You got some nice chunkers in there.

That is the plan for sure!
I have no agar to clone, or I would be all over it.  Any other TEKs to clone with decent results?
Here is the future, also, I looove the Rhizo growth in this one jar.
Is there any way to preserve myc from a cake with any accuracy or should I just fruit it?
Enjoy the day.
Thanks everyone.

Dick

Agar is how you preserve mycelium. It can be put in a petri dish and refrigerated(can last several months), or put in a SLANT (test tube that was laid over at an angle while agar cooled) which is what people use for long term storage. I recently started agar. It is EASY and worth doing. I suggest reading up on it and making that jump as it will make life some what easier. It will allow you to preserve genetics as well as weed out contamination and expand a culture fast.

Thanks Madhatter.
I know about agar, I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve the myc from this cake as it is very rhizo, very aggressive and very healthy.

If you really wanna get fancy with your foil and increase yields, then click the pic of the PF cake in my signature on the left side :awesomenod:

Sorry guess I misunderstood. Yes its possible. I recently took a chunk off a cake and put to agar before fruiting it.

Thank you for reminding me of this, I had great sucsess with it.
I will get on it when I get home from the big city haha
That will keep me busy and out of my wife's hair making 50 foil dishes, she owes you a debt of gratitude.  :-)
Enjoy this lovely day.

My first pull from these cakes, this is a couple of the faves, I had one other that came in at 58g wet but it is being printed

The only comment I can make on your SGFC is that you want to have more perlite exposed.

You don't want all that verm/foil falling off and risking contams.

It's a crowded SGFC. Carefully try to clean it up a bit so the perlite can have some room to evaporate and the air exchange can happen.

Other then that, you have text book dunk and roll down.

If you get the misting / fanning down you're great.

Godspeed man.

Edit:
Afterthought...there are 17 in there right now, should I put less cakes in next time around?

FAE is coming through the holes in the chamber not from the perlite.
Perlite is just supposed to be providing humidity to the chamber.
Your cakes also provide humidity. The more cakes there are, the more humid the chamber will be, and less work the perlite has to do.
So having a crowded chamber really isn't a problem at all.

Well after harvesting The first flush I noticed trich on the bottom of 5 to 6 of my cakes I'm not sure where to go from here as I assumed that the cakes were fully colonized, my room is clean and I just don't know what else to do.  I am beginning to become very frustrated as I have put so much time and resources into this operation.  It may not seem like a lot of resources to some of you who are full time employed but I am living on a very set income.
I did innoc three pasty plates today with pink buffalo and I have my 11 grain jars coming out, but I could really use some guidance as to what is causing my cakes to go green.
I guess I should allow them to consolidate longer???  I am not sure, I understand the concepts but it is not working for me.  My lovely lady is understandably becoming annoyed at my need to purchase supplies with little results, I do not want to give up one of my favorite hobbies.
I am using a repurposed spare bath, toilet removed, sink still in, hardwood floors, no carpet, no cloth.
Is there just not enough airflow in there?
It was chilly in there untill I set up the oil radiant heater so my next batch is lagging.
Please, for the love of mushrooms, someone help this old man.
Thanks for reading,
Dick
