Tamps stones grow check. Is this normal?

Is this a normal Tamps stones growth? I also have some jars that are not 100% colonized but already produce stones.
Thanks.

I've grown sclerotia before, and this looks okay to me. But I'd look for someone else chime in who has more experience with this species.

Looks good to me.
How did you prepare the grain? The bottom looks a little wet but it is always hard to tell whats going on inside a sclerotia producing jar. How old is the jar? Be sure to smell the jar before you want to eat the 'stones'. It smells not like colonized cubensis jars. It is a little earthy hard to describe. If it smells sour or weird come back here before you eat them.

Thats horse oats, soaked with coffee and sterilized for 2h. Lids: silicon ports and SFD air holes. The jars are 2 1/2 months old. Can't really give them good lights, but constant temp 70-75F.

Good conditions. Just soaked oats without simmer or boil?
As I wrote the jar looks good to me. IME Psi. Tampanensis does not produce as much stones as Psi. mexicana or Galindoi. The last Tampanensis culture i used took some more time to look like your jar is looking now.

The bottom looks bacterial to me. I'm sure you'd see more distribution of stone production if that weren't the case. That's 100%--it's not going to colonize those parts of the grains. I'd say to go ahead and harvest around the 3mo. mark, because otherwise you're likely to get mold in there. Just my 2¢

Don't you think it is just too wet? It is definitely true, that the bottom wont colonize more than now (IMO because it is too wet).
Those wet spots are a breeding ground for bacteria what doesn't mean that there already is an bacterial contamination. I think a bacterial contamination would have caused more 'damage' over a time of 2 months.

This jar has looked this way since mid August. Just spaced on tossing it/got kinda hidden away accidentally. This is PE, but same idea. The grains look darker in the pic than IRL.

Wet looking grains 9/10 or more will be bacterial. It's not just a breeding ground when you're talking about wet grains. In a petri dish, water doesn't necessarily mean bacteria, but that's different because Agar doesn't have the endospores/bacteria load that the grains have (at least after being PCed).

dankington is right about the endospore aspect. Open it at the 3 month mark.

I gave the bottom a good look. Did not see any signs of bacteria. I will wait more and I'll keep you guys updated.

The sign of bacteria is the grains looking wet, pressed up against the glass, and not getting fully covered in myc. Pretty much anyone that's grown more than a few tubs will agree with this. How old is this jar?

Here's the jar. I broke it and removed all the substance. The bottom grains never really colonized. Opening the jar came with no smell. I felt the smell of stones after I reached for them. I've had truffles from Amsterdam before and they smelled the same way - sour and mushroom odor.
you can see here the side facing the jar's wall; its slippery, reminds me of the surface of a slug.
The stones slipped. Had hard time cleaning them because I used some shitty horse oats. No truffles inside the substance. (sad )
Because the truffles were too big, they broke into two parts. This is a pic of the inside.
I hope everything is ok; I'm waiting on your feedback guys. Thanks.

Looks good. I had bad jars that smelled very sour and had a weird taste. Be careful if they don't taste similar to the stones you consumed in Amsterdam. Signs of bacteria were present. You could try to spawn the grain to some coir/verm to get fruits and more stones. Maybe it is too late and you already tossed the grains.

Those look like stones the sour smell and the fact that the grains didn't fully colonize is screaming bacteria... What is your question?

The smell is absolutely identical to the stones i had in Amsterdam. Its not exactly sharp sour odor. Its mellow sour slightly sweet and mushroom. I do not find any weird smell that I have not felt before.

In my experience, sclerotia smell sour under normal conditions.

I have another jar that looks healthy and has decent amount of stones, can I take them out, put the substance back in, and wait for another batch?
