Agar extremely soft?

Yo. I set up several pasty plates using a PDA agar (premixed). It calls for 100g/2.5L of water. I made a small batch, heated that shit up on the stove, PC'd along with some PF Tek jars for 1.5hrs, and let sit over night. I swabbed some spores onto a sterile swab, and wheni put that shit on the plate, it just went in! I mean, it literally has the consistency of pudding. Now I'm afraid the like 10 other plates I made in different batches might also all be super soft, which is why none of my spores have germinated in like 8 days! WTF do I do

soft agar is great for germination of spores. premade agar is generally light on the agar-agar strength

Is it? I couldn't even swab the spores ONTO the agar though. As soon as I rubbed the swab on the agar the agar just came off onto the swab lol.

If its ever been too soft I used a higher ratio of agar and it usually does the trick and Only PC agar for 45 min tops. I use 6 grams light malt extract to 12 grams agar and 600 ml distilled water, never had a problem of the agar being too soft.

The nutes do break down. Try a higher agar to water ratio, PC for less time (more like 15 minutes?), and most importantly: be patient. It's not outlandish for spores to take more than a week to germinate.

I was just trying to illustrate that noobs are overly concerned with water getting in jars. Unless your jar is in there upside down you'll be fine especially if there's foil over the top.
If you use polyfil or synthetic filter disks you don't even need to cover with foil.

I think you were honestly trying to be helpful, but you know how some people are with criticism.
